My Journey so far (panel to family van)

Postby twin--turbo » Sun Nov 18, 2018 5:40 pm

I Bought my 2007 56 Plate 100 T350 back in june. got it on ebay without even seeing it

The intention to use it for lugging stuff around for my startup business in Vintage and Mantiques , but also to convert it to a family bus so we can take the Bikes out easily and go rough camping.....,

The first issue I notices was a dreadful transmission whine, I put this down to the gearbox and being a 5Sp was going to be a pain..
And she stoped accelerating at 62MPH...
I then noticed she cut out a lot a junctions.
And that the cental locking would not work after a few days.
And that at 62MPH it was revving a bit high....
All in all not great.

First thing I did was buy a full set of LDV Convoy Minibus seats, and then sold off the unwanted ones to make a tidy proffit :)

After reading about SCV issues I ordered a forscan cable and did a little digging, and then took the plunge and orderd a new valve.... That sorted the Cut Out :)

The locking was down to failing batteries, A week or two passed and I ordered two new batteries , I never got round to fitting them as the lokcing issue were not too much of a pain.

She faile the MOT ona spring, but other than that was pronounced in very good condition....

I then ordered a leather wheel as I hate the feel of the original vinly ones.... That also sat on the shelf..

A week or two later I removed the bulkhead, at which made the WHINE move from up front to right out back..... So I searched for a 3.73 rear axle, found that and had it fitted.. Better Crusing and much quieter..

Then I found a glazed rear and side doors... The side door was fitted last week along with a grab handle.

And today!! I fitted those batteries finally and the wheel..

The wheel was a real struggle, I could not work out the retaining springs. In the end I just cut holes in the old wheel to reach the springs. and eventually got the airbag off.

All that is essentially left to do now is fit the glazed rear doors and finally the first thing I bought, the pair of rear seats for the back!!

Not as yet..

Think of a white panel van MK7 with MK6 off white side door, and painted front bumper ;)

It was a 5.11 and it's a lot better without it, even with only 100PS..

Going to delete the Limiter next, although I don't mind it, when you have a numpty on an A-Road drifting between 45-60, you want the ability to get past 62!!

Aye mk6 are diamond white where mk7 are frozen white

The 3.73 will dramatically reduce revs especially at higher speed 8) are you fitting middle row seats and leaving the rear for load space?

Yeah middle row, leave the rest for load... May make an internal middle bulkhead too.

That's what I have done, middle row seats and wooden bulkhead to separate the 2 areas :D

I think it's all still up in the air

I'd leave the back open, if it's not a work van, I've found it handy in ours to get larger things in an out.

I’ve got a fixed double bed in the back of mine now lol, so Kev is not going to be of any use as a van lol

New Air Filter in today, although the old one looked not to bad.. Hopefully get the oil changed tomorrow if it's not raining.

I also disabled the speed limiter today, although with the 100PS and higher ratio diff it's no flying machine, but it means I can now keep up with traffic on the motorway or overtake dawdlers on the a-roads...

The weekend before last I picked up an "Unknown" roof rack , on getting it back I realised that it was too narrow... Well not a dead los at £25 + collection.

A day or two later I found 3 Roof bars, a Rhino Ladder and ladder tray for £50+ collection.

Today we fitted the bars, and then laid the original rack on top. We used the clamps from the ladder rack to bolt the two together,,,

Image

And then I fitted the Rhino Ladder, Unfortunately I was not thinking and thought that gravity would ensure the ladder was vertical... I am not totally sure it's not just an optical illusion but it's probably on the P1$$.... It's not a big problem as it was fired on this door as a quick job, I have the Glazed rear door to swap on at a later date.

Image

With a few bolts, all in ~£110 with the collection. For a very solid rack and ladder :) (and a couple of trips out for fun)

The ladder tray is not needed. So will see if that can be sold on.

1987 1.8GL , purchased by me for £1200 from A guy in Saaaf Landan. 28/11/1994 ~112K on the clock.

Driven daily until 2000, when temporarily replaced by a 1.8LX, and then loaned to my brother in law and then taken of the road in 2000 for restoreation!

2000-2007 lot of welding (wings, 3 part sills, 4x4 tunel conversion, etc)

Conversion from 1.8 Pinto RWD to 2.9 24V cosworth 4x4..

Moved house, had kids, sold 24V, now nearly 20 years since "Erika" was taken off the road, more rust, cracked windscreen.......

She has genuine cosworth bonnet, bodykit, leather recaro, etc..

Cant give up on her, can't sell her..
