Well got the tyres mounted on the 17s for the front, called in a favour from a mate to get them on and balanced, according to him they balanced up really well considering they have been reduced and welded afterwards and only needed 20/30g of weight on the inside :o
Got them on just before it started to go dark.......roll on the long summer evenings! 8)

So today's the day!
I've started fitting the ms3, the spare inlet has gone back on with the original jag injectors, the coils are on and the old loom is completely out.
Rain stopped play for an hour earlier so did the inside dedicated electrics/relays/fuses for the ms, first job in the morning is to holesaw a hole as far down the back of the bulkhead as possible to put in a rubber grommet and run the loom through.
I've got a socket to weld into the exhaust for a single lambda (narrow band) sensor, I do plan on upgrading to a wideband eventually when funds allow (again  ) there is pin outs for 2 sensors for each bank but in the interest of simplicity I'll be using 1, anyway a few progress pics

Cheers, the inlet etc are back on and the loom is into the cab and run all nice a tidy in the engine bay, it could still do with a little more tidying and the fuel pump/filter moving to under the floor for neatness but that will have to save for another day

Well after all the messing around during over the weekend with wiring etc.......disaster has struck!
Just got the engine fired, ran lovely for 30 seconds and heard what sounded like a fuse pop and then off went the engine!

Went and checked the fuse box that I'd installed for the ms and there was smoke coming from the box........ gutted is an understatement!
Turns out it's a capacitor that has let go and although it is rare for them to go, upon further investigation apparently it does happen....... and it's usually me it happens to!!
I've asked on the ms page and seems an easy fix but I'm going to drop into a local electrical specialist and get a quote for them to give the rest of the components a test to make sure there is no other damage.
The new capacitors are only £3 ffs! Just hope there's no other damage deeper but we'll see
The 2nd pic is just smoke damaged

Bummer, just when you think its running alright  at least it sounds like a reasonably cheap and easy fix.

Well.......what a crappy last week or so, I replaced the capacitors with no luck, upon more investigation I'd bought the wrong ones in my haste to get it repaired, so had to wait again for the new ones to arrive. Sourced some from a local supplier.......fitted and still no joy..... :(
I've emailed the megasquirt supplier about repairing it and he's quoted £50 depending on what wrong! (hopefully it's not terminal)
I've even contemplated putting a di back in the hole as I just can't live with 15mpg running costs, which the megasquirt was hopefully going to solve.
I know it was never going to be a 40+mpg van but mid to low 20s would've been nice!!
The old ecu/loom will be going back on this weekend as we need the van by the end of this month for a family holiday, (looks like being another expensive road trip) in between this I'll have the ms repaired and then refit after the holiday and re-assess. :?

Would an lpg system be any better to aim for - ultimately I think MS3 can handle dual maps?

Fingers crossed the ms is a simple thing to fix.

Hmm dunno, not too clued up on lpg/gas, as far as I understood it once to temp the injectors turn off and the lpg turns ons on and takes over so the ecu wouldn't know any difference?

Not sure........
Anyways the ms was posted on tuesday and has gone off for repair, found another expert that has quoted me £35 but says he will look at it and tell me what's wrong before he goes ahead and repairs it :? Fingers crossed he comes back and says yep just 35quid please! I'd be happy with that sinario

So a little update on the megasquirt, the guy has been in touch and has told me the daughter board is toast but the expansion board that controls the sequential part of things is OK.

He said some of the joints weren't soldered properly/were dry and this will have contributed to the board failing like it did.
All together it's a 270quid bill to get the ms back up and running again!

He's said I could probably get a board from the US and the components to repair myself but I'd be looking at around 100 quid then I've got the hassle of assembling them myself without c**king it up and not being able to properly bench test it afterwards :| (he has said I could repair the old board and sell on afterwards and try and recoup some of the bill that way)

In the end I realised I'd have to bite the bullet and have it done, he's going to post it out to me tomorrow or Tuesday and should be back with me by Wednesday.

Lesson for today, be careful when buying and older piece of electrical gadgetry as it may end up biting you in the arse!

Yeh the guy that's repaired it is from DIY-EFI, just hoping this is the end of it and it's gonna be the start of all things good when it comes to running the engine! 8)
Watch this space as if it doesn't there will be a jaguar engine/gearbox and loom to fit a transit for sale!

Any news yet?
It might be worth trying for a bit of a good will discount on the repair if the boards are known to be faulty?
