Ranger gets a 210 PS twin turbo, but Transit doesn't

Postby hughesyn » Fri Jan 25, 2019 11:25 am

The new Ranger engines are going to be the same 130 and 170 PS 2.0 engines as in the Transit, but it will also get 210 PS twin turbo option.

In passenger cars like the S-Max, the twin turbo has just been increased from 210 to 240PS.

It's a real shame that the 210PS version isn't offered in the Transit and Transit Custom.
I'm sure there's lots of people willing to pay for a bit more performance.

Im pretty sure that will be emissions based...

Dual purpose vehicles (ranger) and cars have different standards to vans

GVW will be lower so less throttle used more of the time, meaning emmissions output can be relatively higher as they will produce the same (or higher) level of emmissions for less time.

I have a Mondeo with the 210 PS twin turbo engine. I drove a Mondeo with the single turbo (180PS?) before deciding on this, it was quite a lot better! Boost is almost instant compared to single turbo, and noticeably more torque. Would be a great engine in a van.
