Mk8 rwd

Postby oldyellar » Thu Mar 14, 2019 9:20 pm

Hi guys I have a mk8 rear wheel drive tipper, I've owned it from a year old it's done around 66000miles now I got it on 20000miles.
I have always serviced it every 8/10k .
It's now jumping into limp mode and the skid light is coming on and a warning on the dash saying service engine now, it was serviced a few weeks ago and before that in October 18, I've plugged it into my little generic code reader and it's coming up with a few codes.

Any ideas what I should look for? There is no smoke of any sort from the truck and turbo power is good however it can be a bit laggy

The turbo actuator is probably faulty or stuck.

I think so I've soaked it with with dw40 leave it over the weekend see how it works out, looks about £150 for a new actuator plus fitting I'm not up to the job myself.

It's an arse on the rwd mk8, I think it needs getting from underneath our something or remove the turbo? I just managed to remove the circlip in situ but it pinged off somewhere

Loot is there anyway to determine it is the actuator? Or is it turbo out and check the condition of that first to eliminate to start the process of elimination?

They are a common fault, the 2 codes mean that the actuator isn't moving, the vnt on these adjusts turbo pressure by changing the pitch of the turbo vanes basically, so the van says more boost and the actuator adjusts so the turbo boosts more and likewise it moves the other way to reduce boost, it is doing neither. You can try and look at the turbo rod and floor it to see if it moves.
You can also do a turbo test in ids.
Also side note, the 1 I looked at apparently it was a sensor on the intercooler or something so it might be a simple as that. You'll need ids and someone who is familiar with it to check it out though. I usually say the advisor is goosed but it is possible in these to be another sensor :? Unless the guy was lying

That's not bad for a mk8 since they're in a cnut of a location from what I could see.

Mk7 rwd was a 5 minute job.

Repair was done by a Ford technician "on the side" so would probably cost more in most situations .

I'm over the moon :D
