Ignition live?

Postby thebarber » Tue Oct 08, 2019 1:32 pm

Does anyone have a pic of where I can get an ignition live from under the driver's seat pls.
I've read posts on it but I'm a bit apprehensive when it comes to electric.
It's for my b2b charger, I've had it working but seems to be taking too much from my main battery, It's down to 12.2v so hoping a switched live will sort this.

Something wrong there I think. Your B2B charger will only draw current when your alternator is charging your starter battery, i.e. when the engine is running. It should therefore never drain your starter battery.

The B2B positive should be connected directly to your starter battery positive, not a switched live. I doubt the charger would work properly connected this way.

If your starter battery is running down, my guess would be that it isn't your B2B charger (assuming it is installed correctly.)

It is connected to the starter battery. But it continues to draw for around 3-4min when vans turned off, that's when I think it's pulling the main battery.
There's an optional switched live connection which starts on low draw and I'm assuming stops when turned off.

This is my setup, + - to starter battery but there's also a connection on the charger for a switched live

Battery to Battery charger is how you charge a leisure battery from alternator on euro5&6 with smart alternator

I think it's this you are looking for however I guess you'll need the Male part to make it function, it's in a very tricky area in between the battery housing and the metal seat casing.

I looked into going off the fuse under the steering wheel using a fuse holder. I've not actually gone ahead with either up to press.

Unrelated to this question, where is it possible to get ACTUAL circuit diagrams for a particular model Transit? My hill assist has stopped to work and I need a circuit diagram as a starting point.

Well it's one of the ways - the most expensive, but by far the best! :)

Others being a VSR (if you haven't got a smart alternator) and an ignition switched relay.

What is the benefit of ignition live on b2b?
My concern for not having it is that my Abso 1250dmt stays on for 3-4 min after ignition is off thus drawing the van battery down on short multiple journeys, thankfully I've put a master switch disconnecting charger when knocking around the doors.
