Coolant leak

Postby danh1984 » Thu Feb 13, 2020 4:07 pm

Hi guys, discovered a coolant leak when I’ve been out in the van, no over heating or anything. Runs fine etc popped the hood up and I heard a slight hissing from the coolant bottle, someone told me I could have the wrong cap on so Ive ordered a new one. Pipes are warm and squishy apart from the one on the left of the second pic. ImageImage

One of those two pipes (on the front left) has a restrictor inside, which can get blocked. Might be worth checking, or try it with the restrictor removed

Ah right I see, and that could be restricting the coolant and make it to high pressure type thing?

No White gunk stuff on the oil cap either, pipes are warm apart from the left, so thinking it’s maybe not the head gasket.

My guess would be just the cap. Get a genuine one, the pattern part I got was crap! The old cap looks a bit old!
The pipes with restrictors have a slight bulge where the rstictor is fitted. They can be a bitch to get out, as they are not near the end of the pipe!

Yes, I just cut mine out and re-joined with a straight connector. This was still a bit of a restriction, so I replaced it with a new length of pipe :)

Hi guys, quick update, changed the cap to the original one I had, that came with the van not the one pictured earlier, anyway took the van out for a drive today, and there was even more coolant inside the engine bay, the restrictors feel fine when I’ve squeezed around them, and I can see coolant returning back into the coolant bottle. Vans still running fine but noticed tonight that there’s good dose of coolant in the around then coolant bottle etc. So of to the garage tomorrow..
