2.4 RWD, non starter, flashing coil light.

I replaced my alternator on Wednesday and fitted new battery, didn’t connect main cable to alternator as the original eyelet connector snapped off on old alternator, but she started and ran ok. Today I fitted new eyelet connector and connected to alternator, moved van to a new spot closer to my home, as she was ticking over, there was a slight splutter/cough and she cut out, now she won’t start, just turns over, coil light is flashing now as well. Could something have happened whilst she was running without the alternator connected? This is the first time I’ve started her over a year.

If your coil light is flashing, it means you have fault codes stored, best get them read as guessing can become expensive and time consuming.

Running the engine without the alternator connected is not a great idea, it is capable of pumping out a huge amount of voltage/current.

Probably not. Just get yourself an ELM-327, they're cheap...and download Forscan, it's free.

I bought the elm327 with switch and installed forscan (Windows 7 32bit), but the drivers failed to load when I plugged in the elm327 and forscan won’t connect to van. I’ve installed what I think is the right driver from the disc, but still no joy.

These are the fault codes i got, once i got Forscan working, i cleared thema and rechecked and onlu got P1665 x 2 and P0216. Are these fatal or fixable, one of them P0404 is the EGr valve?

P1665 is fuel pump related, possibly the pump/timing solenoid playing up...P1608 suggests the wiring isn't happy, best to check the wiring to/from the pump/PCM first as it can sometimes be at fault.

EGR is just bolted on and can be repaired/replaced fairly easily.

I'd be checking all your engine looms for breaks/poorly connections etc..

The P1665 code is the one you need to sort. The P0216 (CPS) I believe is a cranks sensor fault. Essentially they point to a communication or "possible" wiring fault.

I’m trying to look up fuel pump prices, but not sure which one I need. My van is a 125 T350. I can only find pumps related to the 120’s. Any ideas please?

Those codes suggest it's more likely a wiring issue rather than the pump itself. Check the loom where the pump flying lead joins to the main engine loom to PCM/ECU.

Failing pumps usually give 2 pump codes - timing fault, plus pump/EDC communication fault.

Are there any particular fuses I should be checking as well, checked fuse box under bonnet and all ok, forgot about the one behind glovebox? Is the wiring easier to check from above or below? Can the wiring just fail like this, never ever even spluttered in 8 years of ownership, was running sweet until it cut out after I changed the alternator, even though I did drive it around the block with out connecting the main cable to the alternator, was awaiting new eye connectors to arrive.

If it's a 125ps, it will be a VP-44. I believe only the 75 & 90 have the VP-30.
