While i think of it, to do the crank seal, once i have the flywheel off, how do i get the seal out?

get a genuine ford one, take the carrier plate off then push the seal out, fit new seal to carrier plate, new seal comes with a plastic ring to fit it over the crankshaft

Thanks gemini, i see it is in the carrier plate that makes life easy, will go down to fords tomorrow then and get one, hope its not a week wait!

Then i can think about getting it boxed back up again and off the drive!

Right called up fords, cant get the crank seal for me till wednesday!
And even then its £49.67 inc!!!!!!!
So i hoped to have the motor in by mid next week and this is a bit of a hold up for me, then i called my local parts supplier, he said 3pm today and £8.50 for a pattern seal, now i know i have been advised to go genuine but due to the timeframe i am tempted by the pattern part (and price) as i am skint and want to get on the road asap!

Anyone had troble with pattern seals before? i always use a locall bearing supplier for bearings and seals for my bikes and never genuine and not had a problem before as they have often been the same brand as are wrapped up in the Suzuki packet!

seal should be around £18, does the pattern one come with the plastic ring as its needed to fit the seal over the crank to stop damage to the lip of the seal

Well fords quoted that price and i asked if it was definately correct and he said it was, the new pattern seal dose not come with the ring but i have thought about it and am going to cut a strip of very thin plastic, make into a loop and fit inside the seal, then push this over the crank, withdraw the makeshift fitting ring and robert's your fathers brother and fanny's your aunt

I am not paying £50 odd for a seal just cos its in a ford wrapper
i may be wrong but this pattern part supplier has been pretty good and he assures me it is high quality

Also the wait for a genuine one is wednesday, that holds me up too much really, i will be the test pilot for pattern seals

Oh and cheap pinion bearing puller total cost £1,75 + a few scaps laying around!

Glad to see you got the hang of the pics! I wouldn't pay nearly £50 for the seal either, we have used pattern seals as well in the past with no trouble. At the end of the day, if it was a fiver difference I am sure you would wait for the Ford part, but I think they are taking the wee with over £40 difference.

i nearly fell off my chair when they told me but hey pattern part will be here at 3pm
Along with new pinion bearing but no gasket

i think i should be able to make one though, have got the thickness of the old one ( uncompressed part) and am gonna get some paper as what i have is too thin

Bloody typical!
Went to pick up new parts and the vegetable behind the counter (not the reliable accurate owner of the business) had ordered the wrong one!

he tried to tell me it was the suppliers fault so i asked to see the order book, sure enough he had written down the wrong part number thus quoting wrong number to supplier

At this point the owner emerged to sort out the balls up and said vegetable scuttled off out of site

Still i got a discount for my trouble and i am assured i will have the seal by 12 noon tomorrow.....................we shall see

No disturbingly not! in fact ha has a few years on myself, but lets face it when you work in a motor factors and ask the customer "whats a king pin kit?" you must be pretty dam clueless!

Trouble is i cant bring myself to say "i dont want to be seved by you, i want the clued up dude" when i go in to order parts

But hey we all make mistakes, as i have, many times just on this project let alone all the others

Oh and also, my gearbox is ally and has a flange coupling to connect to the prop leading me to believe its a mt75 correct?
