Favourite mk transit and why.

Postby loot » Fri Apr 24, 2020 10:10 am

So my favourite transit is the early mk2 with metal front, square and uniform but it can't be standard because the wheels inside the arches look gash to me, it needs the dished wheels and front sport valance which makes it look a little Range rover. Not in that Ford pastel colour either lol a modern deep metallic colour.

I have no idea why they made the plastic front later version? Maybe to stop rust or noise?

I always loved my Mk5 TDI 1995 would of loved it in county form.

Was the first van I owned myself and it was a flyer, from NZ market it had no cat and a high ratio diff, that could keep up with or leave behind most other things driving the same roads as me around 99-2002.
One of those ones I wish I'd never parted with. Some adventures were had in that van!

My dad had a blue MK1 minibus with both sliding front doors and a Perkins diesel, I remember having to hang out the door spraying go go juice into the air intake while he rolled it down the hill to get the bugger going

I'm a bit unsure about the front sliding doors, some you see on the 1 side and others are normal. I wonder if you could drive along with the door open like those delivery trucks? surely the rail makes it noisy? Jury is out. :P

Nah you can't just have one slidy door on the driver's side, that would look silly, imagine now, with the sun out, your Oakley's on, door open cruising down the prom with some motley crue blasting out the 8 track 8)

Mk2 swb with 6 stud wheels 2 litre pinto dark blue (78 T reg) it was my second transit (first one was rough, light blue with a Kermit green drivers side front wing) after that it would be my 92 Mk4 I bought it in 2003 for 500 snots with a light bump at front, fitted new bonnet, bumper and crossmember cover, a new clutch and sorted out an airlock that seller told me he'd tried to sort for ages but never did......a week later I drove it to the south of France (between bordeaux and toulouse) and back......never missed a beat and returned 37.5 mpg on the trip....would (and did Many times) do 90+ on the clock easily......loved it.....hated selling it.....never had another transit as good till my 55 reg Mk6 lwb......tho I'm loving the Mk8 now....so the answer to the question is 2...4...6...8 :)

Love the simplicity and looks of the Mk1 and early Mk2 but it's gotta be diesel and power steering so SWB Mk3 for me these days

I have to admit a Mk7 factory 3.2 if you could get one in a 4x4 would probably be my favourite.

Oh wait a minute
