2013 transit custom cutting out

Postby Paul68 » Wed Aug 12, 2020 7:37 am

Hi guys, friend has this van, recently had the engine rebuilt but since had trouble with it had it running drove 3 miles started losing power and died, got it going again last night sat ticking over then starts labouring revs up and down then cuts out, he had someone look at it but they was just guessing which part to replace with his money, replaced loom from metering valve to ECU, metering valve, fuel pump, fuel filter, battery, starter motor, on this guy's advice whilst the engine was being rebuilt he had it remapped and egr removed I personally would have had it done after I knew it was running ok, any thoughts ? Has anyone seen this fault before

You need to plug-in and monitor some live data (fuel pressure etc) imho.

Yeah I totally agree, he has had this done but whether it acted up at the time I don't know, I'll have to ask

Hi all back again, still not got to the bottom of this, cut out today and wouldn't start for quite a while what we do know is while it was cut out the in tank fuel pump wouldn't run, metering valve has been replaced as has the fuel pump, 2 codes came up both to do with fuel pressure one code said low pressure possible blocked fuel filter or line but then said if code p25??? Also Present then, but stupidly didn't take a screenshot shot and off he went back home again once running, the fuel pump relay didn't operate while cut out either and I'm sure the second fault code showed a stupidly high fuel rail pressure

Anyone had this before ?
Also should we see the pressure relief valve operate at all during live data ?

Cheers Paul

Tried it in what way ?
If relay isn’t working,it’s not getting power from fuse.
If relay is but pump isn’t,pumps likely u/s,banging bottom of tank usually restarts them temporarily

It's really strange this problem, he bought a new pump, new relay and I initially thought fuse I even used a piece of wire instead of the fuse but got nothing then after trying different things the pump suddenly spring to life

Relay switching coil, and the feed down to pump are fed from same fuse which is live all the time...
PCM earths the relay to feed pump, but only for 30 seconds after ignition turned on,or while cranking/running...

Do you remember which fuse number you’ve been looking at ?

Hi yeah fuse was either 9 or 10 I I initially thought I'd sorted it because it had a bent fuse that would cut it out if you moved it, while it didn't run there was power at the fuse

In the junction box under bonnet where FP relay is ?
Neither of those fuses are for relay or pump ?

And the fuse can still show as power when checked, yet not be live out of the fuse box if the terminals are splayed, hence my question...

The fuse I removed did operate the fuel pump relay, I may have the number wrong it was in the row directly behind the pump relay

Number may be wrong, but it’s not in that row either......
So your either looking at wrong fuse, relay or both :?:

5 is for PCM
