Ford Transit cut out and now won’t start

Postby MacThomas » Tue Sep 15, 2020 4:58 pm

Hi I have a Ford Transit SWB mk 6 FWD TDDI 2.0 Iwas driving the other day and my van suddenly conked out!

Restarted and came back on for another 15 seconds managed to roll it out the way and then would crank but wouldn’t fire up

Called out AA recovery

Sprayed quick start and would fire up but no pressure in accelerator and would die without spraying in the air intake

Now just cranks but won’t come back on!

Fuel filter was rather low the AA breakdown guy filled with fresh diesel and reconnected but didn’t work

I checked the fuel and doesn’t have any bits of metal or crap in

Really hoping it isn’t the fuel pump failed as an expensive job

He didn’t run diagnostics so haven’t checked! Also I have no cash right now so I am a sitting duck

Wondering any other ideas? To why this could happen

Thanks

Chad

Oh also I had a split in my turbo air intake so I have been taking him off and messing around with it a couple times so wondering if the green and white wire underneath has been disturbed!!

Is it a case of wiggly the wire and cranking it?

Have tried this and still won’t fire

Cheers

Unfortunately you'll need to get the codes read to get an idea of where/what to look at. Guessing is time consuming and expensive. Since it runs with a sniff of easy start we can eliminate the valve timing being way out.

Forscan and a 15 quid ELM-327 reader will get the code read done.

Thanks for the help Lord! I wondered if it was a waste of cash getting a reader as I hear the cheap ones bad Mk 6’s can be hard to read but thanks for one that CAN read! Def will buy one of those!

I’ll have a look at the Wiring loom! Anything but a broken pump!

Yeah I have been taking the turbo inlet on and off above the engine the past month and I changed the oil and filter

Wondering if that has anything to do with it

Hi been a while..

Managed to get diagnostics and said fuel pump was knackered.. Purchased a recon (To Bosch OEM standard) for £470

Had the mechanics take out old pump and for new pump but still van would only crank and not start

They followed the procedure that the company (Edinburgh parts) provides and said it was a strange way to engage a pump to the existing as you had to keep turning the ignition on and off which isn’t the standard way

Now I have messaged the company and they say the pump is perfectly fine and are blaming the garage for not engaging the existing correctly or it’s something else wrong with my van and my prior pump is probably fine aswell

They will let me send back but are taking 20% as they have to recode a perfectly good pump

And the garage won’t £800 for a (real pump) and reinstallion and all the labour is going to end up costing me a bomb

Could it of been anything else wrong and I know everyone talks about the wire along the starter motor could that give al the signals that the fuel pump has gone?

Here are the codes the Garage has after installing the recon pump

Looking for advice to see if it’s a dodgy pump or dodgy mechanics!

P0380

B2139

Cheers for any info

Fault code B2139 is a fault with your PATS security system, she'll never start if the system is not corrected.

Just put ignition in and no dashboard lights whatsoever it cranks but tries to start ...?

It’s my girlfriends Dad so gingerly trying to not pee him off as I’m still trying to smooth him over seeing his daughter haha

They can take a long time to start after a pump change, mine took about 5 injector bleeds before firing. It does help if you have a hand priming bulb.
But you need to clear the codes first.

I can see derv over the injectors where must of tried.. But yeah atm he is convinced it’s a dodgy pump as I bought it off eBay well (Edinburgh parts) instead of buying an £800 euro part or equivalent..

So if he gets the pump then I guess he has no excuse haha as easy to blame the eBay part as hard to recon correctly?

Not sure who is right atm but yes going to cost me £800 plus the double labour and I’m left wondering if the original pump failed I’m the first place

But as always I’m no professional

Sounds like a good website!

I don’t know if her Dad will trust me anymore on getting a pump.. Looks like I gotta spend the £800 but atleast I’m out of the equation if it fails again it’s not my doing!

I hope it isn’t something else and I keep getting fuel pump failures!

Keep you posted with the results of pump no 2...

Before buying "another pump"....was the other pump virginized and/or coded to the PCM..?? You didn't say. If not it'll never start. You can't just plonk another pump on there and expect it to work.

No it was Virginised and came with a print out assign it

But still pulling those codes... Me habit saying they can be iffy with recons so thinks it’s just faulty

Whereas the company swear it’s not faulty..

But yeah was wondering if it could be anything else.. as I know everyone talks about the wire over the engine.. mechanic seems to think it’s the pump

But yes it’s £800 but then least he is liable if the next pump doesn’t work as I feel i can’t argue anything else with the one I purchased

Pats light is the little red light on the clock above the radio, does that light go out when the ignition is on or stay flashing?
