290 DCIV been done for speeding

Postby Agriv8 » Thu Sep 17, 2020 4:21 pm

Hi confused I have a 290 DCIV that I could drive at car speed limits see parkers Guide - https://www.parkers.co.uk/vans-pickups/ ... ed-limits/

Just got a producer through doing 59 on 60 zone

My van is a Dual cab DCIV transit custom 290S so 4 doors and windows its under the weight for Dual purpose as its under the 2040 unladen weight.

it is and always unladen as I use this as a family car ( not connected with any Trade or Work )

trying to read through this but its very odd

help gratefully received as always

Check the reg doc for category. Our tourneo is M1 and that's a car so car limits apply. . Guess double cab in van is a van. But defo check.

What's a 'producer'? The piece of paper that you need to worry about is a NIP (Notice of Intention to Prosecute).

Were you stopped or did a camera get you?

Whether or not you were laden or use it as a family vehicle is irrelevant. Stick with the relevant facts.

This whole question needs looked at but Government says they have no plans to do so. Maybe the speed limits were acceptable/relevant in the early days of banger vans, but things have moved on and most modern vans have the same safety features as cars and actually handle well. We have the anomaly in Scotland where we have very few 3 lane motorways (ie really dual carriageways) but you can do 70 on one and only 60 on the other. I had an XLWB Relay camper van and re-registered it as a motor caravan (as opposed to LCV) and next day, same vehicle, car speed limits applied. Mad. My big unwieldy motorhome can travel at car speed limits but not my son's Custom Sport. Also, the Government make a fortune out of VED - Euro 6 van - £265, Euro 6 car with same emissions is half the price. Bunch of jokers.
Feel sorry for you as it is an easy mistake to make. Bob.

Yes it’s 60 across all N1’s.... so many do not know this and many fall foul of it.

30 in built up areas, 50 on single lane, 60 on dual carriageways but 70 on motorways unless towing.

Handy link with click through for further explanation....

As stated above, it’s classed as light goods (N1), so when it’s national speed limit signs you’re going 10 mph slower than cars.
