Arch trims

Postby Hewzey » Sun Nov 08, 2020 6:32 pm

Hi, I’m currently looking at wheel arch trims for my mk7 there is a choice between painted black metal or black abs plastic ones, does anyone have these or know if one is a better choice than the other?.

Cheers

Cheers, good advice, I bit the bullet last week and got plastic, fitted yesterday and really glad I did! They match the bumpers/trims well, knowing now what I know metal would’ve been a mistake like you say, thanks for reply

Nice! I was going to hack up some Transit Connect arches but these look like a lot less work and cheaper. Looking forward to
seeing your photos when you’ve worked it out :D

Connect arches won't work as the curvature of the arch is different, I know I've tried

That's a great looking LWB MK7 mate. The arches do suit it nicely. That black sticker you have coming from the side window into the next panel. LOVE THAT! Where did you get that vinyl for the side window? The grey and black graphics also suit the van very well. The side step (I think that is) looks really well with the sport kit. You smashed it. Added some good character to a white van.

Also like the wrapped bonnet. I see you have used a hole saw to put some holes in the bonnet... Personally I prefer the standard vents in the mk7 bonnet. Did you have to weld a piece of metal there first and then drill the holes? The custom front lights are nice and the black side repeaters in the wing mirror assembly also cool!

Cheers mate, yea I’m quite happy with it, originally I got the Decals from eBay as dvla stipulate motor caravan style graphics
are needed for reclassification. Not sure where from now though but not too hard to find. The window add on decals came in the kit.

The side step is needed as it’s a rwd so quite a step up from side door into living area. I have a fold away step but don’t always want to put it out so the running board is great. Because it’s black It spoilt the sport kit look and lines which I’ve only recently fitted so I sprayed the edge of it white and 2k lacquered it when I fitted the arch kit to keep the side in line.

The bonnet cover has those holes cut out of it and the original grill is under it, I don’t like the holes and am tempted to recut the around the grill but I think it may lose some of its tightness on the fit to the bonnet if I do.

Spraying the edge of the side step has made a huuuge difference. So much better!
