New mk8. Essential spec.

Postby RichH » Sun Nov 22, 2020 2:58 pm

Bit the bullet and finally decided to chop in my mk7 for a new mk8.

Ordered it through a discount vehicle company. Factory order 20 week wait!

L3 H2. 185. Auto. Limited.

Also specced-

Metallic - Moondust silver.

Front camera with split view includes rear view camera with trailer hitch assist, rear LED downlighter, front fog lights

3 Pin point power converter - 230V/400W

Seat pack 15 - Transit. (To get heated seats.)

Thatcham category 1 alarm with 2nd remote key.

Steel spare wheel.

Are there any other "must have's"? Fancied "side park assist" but not sure if I'd use it tbh. I heard somewhere that some options mean you getter a better colour screen between the dials etc? Any other stuff I should be looking at? Is the dealer fitted ply lining good?

Cheers guys.

If you're on the open road a lot, I would think about adaptive cruise

Does it already have aircon and front/rear parking sensors?

Yes. Has the park assist (not the active park assist / self parking)

I believe aircon standard on the limited.

My mate has adaptive cruise and I'm not a fan of it. Prefer std fixed cruise I think. Unless it has other benefits that come with it.

The colours aren't inspiring. I'm looking into the SVO paint option, but it says that it'll come with black bumpers if so. Seems strange.

The benefit to me is that it doesn't keep catching up with the car in front when it slows down, or someone overtakes and cuts in front. I love it, but if you no likey, then it's fair enough 8)

To fit the proper Ford ones are £65 plus vat each and you need 4. To have them as a extra it’s £150 and no mucking about with the wiring or you could invalidate the warranty

Hmmm are they good?

Is the dealer ply lining worth having you think?

Be careful, the last transit I ordered 2013 some of the options I ordered they tried to retrofit at the dealer by there local bloke. Tow bar was one of the big ones. After arguing that I didn't want a non factory one fitted as it would not get the Ford 3 year warranty. They agreed and fitted Ford parts at the dealership.

You can get rear LED lights and half boarding from factory. I ordered that but they forgot to put it down on the order so got left off

Had the factory half height boarding in one of my Mk7s. It was MDF, a little bit of water and it was no good.

Not a Ford or dealer option but why not fully underseal it yourself the day you pick it up? Sounds like you'll keep the van for some time. Its so easy when the van is new. I used the Bilt Hamber anti corrosion wax, really nice stuff.

Sounds like a very nice spec.

Auto high beam is nice to have.
Now I'm used to it, it annoys me that I have to manually operate the lever in my car to make the high beams come on!

I ordered 'lane keep assist' to get auto high beam and the nicer colour screen in the middle of the dash.
Lane keep assist is useless, but the little colour screen is excellent.
That's on the original mk8, might be different on the mk 8.5.

Ah good info. So Lane keep assist gets you the nicer dash. ACC does too I think.
