I know I know. At least I'm getting better at welding...

Had a look at the yellow chalk today and a bit of research. It's still going to be a tonne of work but reckon I can get it through the MOT with about £650 in parts. The front suspension corrosion isn't actually the spring turret but the inner wing/apron

It shouldn't be a surprise that just above it is some soaking wet Ford OEM sound deadening

A bit confused as to why the rear outrigger that the spring hanger attaches to has disintegrated but nothing else around it. Going to give dieselhead123 a call tomorrow and order a couple of new ones:

Finally got some paperwork for the previous repairs:

I'll have to fabricate my own parts for the inner wing aprons and the lower inner wings because nobody seems to have them at a decent price. Got a shock this morning when I was told I'd have to move it from my work car park as builders are taking over but managed to negotiate to keep it there. Wasn't looking forward to a highly illegal trip to store is somewhere else. Finally seems like I'm getting a break with this.

If your van had a soul it would be so happy that you're stripping it of all the newspaper stuffing and expanding foam...

15hrs into this rear corner now. At least 2hrs was working on how to lower the spring safely and for all 15hrs i’ve been worried the van will fall on me and i’ll die quicker of hypothermia being pinned to the freezing ground. After this I’ve got the other side to do before moving onto the front aprons and then the side sills...

So glad to see you're soldiering on trying to keep your Mk6 on the road.

Your bravery in going so far in a work car park amazes me.

I did about an hour of tinkering on the interior of mine yesterday and almost froze to death doing that.

How you can lie under a Transit for hours on end outside in this weather is beyond me.

Bravo sir!

Thermal under layer. Tea. Some of those rubber jigsaw mats. Halogen work light and the blessed heat from the angle grinder/ welder... Feels like summer today though :D

I do tip my hat to you 8) I tend to cry off that sort of thing these days and say, loot don't do it, it's meant to be a throw away item it isn't meant to outlive its intended lifespan, what you're doing is unnatural  but fortunately I'm inside the lair now and although it isn't completely clear or organised in there I do have the basics like the feeling in my extremities which is too underrated these days I find

Keep up the good work 8)

Are you talking about the whole of a Mk6?

More progress today. Welding looking better, getting quicker and happy with how solid everything is...

A day off tomorrow for a job interview so I can get enough money to make this thing look great. Also excited to take delivery of my first ever batch of Por-15 and some sheet steel to go with my new panel beating hammers. 8) started day dreaming of chopping the roof rack down (I will only need it for 8x4 sheets or maybe one day a roof tent) and scavenging the top part of a mid-high cab to act as a spoiler

Having a go at the drivers side rusty inner sill so I’ve got some good metal to weld the rear quarter to. This is what is looked this before, with some light wire brushing and the usual expanding foam/ newspaper. Of course the rust is pretty much isolated to where the foam and newspaper is. I wonder what condition this van would be in without the bodge repairs:

First go at fabricating my own panel using some hammers...

So much prep work going into getting this rear quarter done! Having to fabricate patches for most of the outriggers I come across but I won’t stop until the underside is all silver and sealed
