Where does rust start on MK5

I'm looking at getting a good transit pic is an example, fortunately I live in Portugal where they take longer to rust as no salt, most seem to have a problem with arches. I'm going to have a good look under and try and get it under a ramp, are there any hidden areas to look?

Over all my mk 3 to 5 transits all had door bottom rusting the 190 had the the front xmember behind the front bumper welled .the 120 had new bonnet and rear wheel arches all of the vans I sprayed waxoil and gear oil mix in the and out of the chassis and box sections on the mk 5 I even removed the plastic step and waxoil under it then I removed the plastic trim on the sill drilled a hole and pored gear oil in it and with the front of the van jacked up let it run all the way down the inside of it if you do this don’t park it somewhere that difficult to clean up afterwards.

I was going to say on the invoice

My m reg mk5 needed it's first welding (that i know of) at the back of the rear arches the rear quarter and floor.

But generally where the salt water hits I'd say. Also the doors split by the window :? Not rust related but still worth a mention :(

This was my 1994 Mk4, back in 2005, and you can pretty much see where rust breaks out on these from that picture (Mk5 is the same, pretty much). Door bottoms, front wings, and wheel arches are visually the worst, but this one was also rotten on the front suspension top mounts

The Mk5 was better, at the same age, but you can see it starting in the same places, but underneath was all good, unlike the Mk6!

Thanks for the tips, photos and advice, found a pretty clean looking one here, I'll be sure to check it over after asking a few more questions

The paintwork on that looks a bit too good for a 22 year old van, so it may have had a blow over. Take a magnet with you, and check in the areas you can see on my photos, that it isn't full of filler.

Be aware that "most" of these have been used as Taxi's, so may not have been looked after that well. See if you can find out if it's had a new cam belt, and when it was done

Ok thanks, I've seen a few with overspray. There are a few here selling off from schools so mileage is probably low but well worn like this one below, and has rust. It might be more of a struggle than I originally thought.
