Noise when vans below 1500rpm

Postby SandyHenderson » Thu Apr 15, 2021 9:53 pm

Clutch feels good, biting point is still pretty low. No issues with it slipping or that, it's a rocket ship! But I noticed when idling it makes this kind of rattling/vibrating/ticking kind of noise. It also happens when I take turns in 3rd gear and the revs are below 1500rpm. Or if I short shift it does it until I reach 1500rpm. Its not a constant noise. It just comes and goes. My first thought it was the clutch but I'm thinking it could be my fuel filter needing changed? I'm doing it soon as it looks old asf lol.

Any ideas? Not too fussed about it at the moment as its been fine since I got it 6 months back but just curious

 If it has a dual mass flywheel, it could be starting to break up :(

You could be right, I don't really know, but the symptoms sounded exactly like my son's 2009 Mondeo which turned out to be the DMF.

Phoned up frauds today and found out I have a single mass flywheel? I wonder if the noise is related to that or if its a diesel pump sound? Made a video to try show you lot exactly how it sounds but this site doesn't let me attach the video, despite converting it several times to other formats.

Update: I changed my fuel filter and the noise isn't as bad. I was idling earlier and it wasn't happening. I revved and it sounded fine. What I did notice was that when I give the gas pedal a hard burst, that's when I hear the noise. Kind of sounds like a buzzer or a rattling noise

Could be the heat shield above the exhaust mate :?: I have had to put some repair washers on mine in the past as the mounting holes have got too big and causes a hell of a racket! :x
