Windscreen Wiper problems

Postby MrT42 » Tue Sep 14, 2021 10:12 pm

I have searched but cant find the topic here, but apologies if it has already been raised.

I have a 2017 ford Custom. Yesterday the wipers started going by themselves and wont turn off. I pulled the fuse to make them stop.
I tried replacing the fuse several times during the day and eventually they went back to working perfectly.

This morning when I started the van they started going again and wouldn't stop. Again I pulled the fuse.
This evening I poked around but couldn't find anything obvious. After turning the ignition on and off a few times while I fiddled they now have stopped being on all the time. Instead they only come on when I move the stalk to "Fast" and then stay on regardless until the ignition is turned off, then they just stop without parking. Turn the ignition back on and they remain off until the "fast" position selected.
Additionally the washer doesn't work.

No idea what they will do tomorrow when I start the van.

I have googled and it seems a fairly common thing and possibly to do with the Battery Control Module.
Can any one offer any help as to how this can be fixed?

Thanks
J

Check the pins / connectors on wiper motors for water ingress , replaced both mine this year , same problems as you

I have the same problem on a 67 plate. I currently have the relay removed and hope to be able to effect a proper repair this weekend.

As suggested the problem was / is the corroded pins on the motor (Drivers side).
The garage had to fit a new wiper motor (apparently our ford main dealer averages 4 of these each month). They are also having to fit a new plug which they have sourced from ebay. Ford only supply a new wiring loom.

Sorry about your wiper problems. I have similar issues and having taken out the motor today find that of the original 12 pins only 8 are now left, the remaining 4 having corroded away. I am guessing that I will also have to change the plug, though was shocked to find the only guy on eBay selling them wants £120 each. Added to the cost of a new motor, that is one expensive bit of corrosion for a van that is less than 4 years old.

Not sure where the garage finally got the loom (They actually sourced a loom rather than a plug) but they charged me just shy of £70 for it.
