Side window finishing trim

Postby Cheesester » Fri Aug 05, 2022 5:40 pm

Hi all. Just joined. Converting a mk7 into a camper

Ive fitted side windows (rh and lh into door) and noticed some vans have a curved trim piece before and maybe after the window. Looks like it finishes it off a bit nicer. Is that a factory fitted part for vans with windows? Any ideas what they're called so I can source some?

Thanks

Would be interested if they're not buried! How do they attach?

They adhere on with 3m double sided tape, I did have a pair of them somewhere.

i put them on my van, they are a genuine part, the rear of the sliding door one is obviously shoerter than the others, and one of them comes in 2 widths, cant remember which one, depending on van year, but tbh i dont think it matters (think its the fwd door one), as of note tho, look at the pictures on the net, they are slightly shorter than the window height but only noticeable if your looking for it

you will need a good cleaning agent that rots the 3m seals, (i used wynns brake cleaner) a blade and some wet and dry, time and patience to get rid of the old 3m tape

a lot of the ones on flea bay are damaged on the visible face for some reason, and they can get damaged removing them if the person doing so isnt careful, i ended up buying 6 to get 4

i used 20mm 3m scotch branded tape, i got that from a tape agent on flea bay, dont buy the cheap crap, its wierd tape lol, it dosnt stick to you, it relies on pressure when your fitting it, and the longer its stuck on the stronger it gets

Thanks guys. Good info. I'll be honest I'm struggling to find any detail or photos online so that's really useful

Thanks. Actually less sure on how they look now! The window finishes on an existing black vertical seam or door gap without them.
