Axle hub nut stockists

Postby protechdm » Mon Oct 10, 2022 3:06 pm

Could anybody point me in the direction of new rear axle hub nuts? The vehicle is a Ford P100 but I was informed this variety was also fitted to a Mk3 Transit. The axle diameter is 43mm and the socket size is 50mm, it is the bi-hex type. Cheers!

Yes dropped them a message earlier. They are in Poland? See, I'm not even 100% sure if they will actually fit, just everything points to them being the same apart from both sides on the P100 being RH threaded. Failing that, I guess it will be a case of a machine shop being able to make one up for me.

Yeah it's relatively expensive to have them shipped and I don't know how easy it would be to return items. If it helps my MK3 has 65mm normal hub nuts (not bi hex) and both sides RH thread I think. I'm not sure if any of the mk3s have bi-hex to be honest. I've never heard of a 50mm hub nut fitting a transit either. People seem to have either 65mm or 56mm.

Is the p100 front wheel drive? Mk3 transits are RWD. Sounds to me like maybe they don't share the same parts. Hopefully someone else will chime in and confirm or disagree!

The p100 was either cortina based or sierra based iirc so both rwd, have you tried looking up a hub nut for either one of them?

Got curious and did some digging, perhaps these part numbers, from a 80-120 transit mk3.

A quick google search came up with this:https://www.ebay.com/itm/275312090298
Which appear to be the right size and shape...

Yep those part numbers are exactly the ones I have written down here after digging. They cross reference to ABS910761 & ABS910772. Fitted to the Mk3 between '89 & '91.

Can confirm, part number 5021935 / ABS 910761 fit the axle. The only issue is that the collar on the hub nut cannot be staked into the axle stub as it does on the P100.

Guess the ad is incorrect. Both sides on the P100 are RH thread for sure.

I guess my question is, these axle nuts which do not have a collar, I've torqued them up to 250nm. But there is no collar to stake them into the axle stub. So, for the transit owners who have fitted them, how do you stop them potentially coming loose?

Not sure. In fact lock nuts seem to come in various guises these days. They must do something i.e. stretch threads because they're a "one shot". Certainly no nylon collar on the internal.
