Fitting side marker lights

Postby Lee J » Mon Aug 13, 2007 2:14 pm

I wanna be like the big boys - sob sob sob.

Saw a XLWB transit last month, the one with the orange (amber) marker lights down the side and thought "I need some of those for my LWB".
So, on saturday I got a set of 6 amber marker lights for my transit.

Thing is, what on earth do i drill a big hole in the side of me van with to take each light? the diameter of the bulb shaft is 24mm. I'd need to drill a 24mm hole in van, slide light in and pop rivit light to side of van?

1. Where would I tap the power for them from? sidelight circuit?
2. what would i drill the van with?
3. would pop riviting them crack them?

here's a piccy:

When fitting all these extra lights have you fitted any relays?

I'd have said that you'd be better off bolting them than riviting?

And are they LED or filament bulbs? If they're actual bulbs, you'll prolly want a relay from the sidelights, like mrmp says

As for drilling the holes - use a HSS holesaw but keep the speed RIGHT down, you don't want it getting hot. Also you may wanna use a slightly smaller holesaw (like 22/23mm) then file the last bit away to get a nice clean edge

I ment all the other lights you've already fitted, because if you are adding more lights you will need relays.

With the number of extra lights he has running he WILL need a relay.

nah, I reckon I'll go the relay route to be safe. The four roof markers are NOT LED's and these 6 side markers are also not LED's so thats 10 extra bulbs running off the side lights. I will however take a feed off the number plate lights - good idea!

each marker light has a red wire and a black wire. Can someone just suggest what to do with each wire? can i just attach them in a chan? if so, where does the last wire go?
