London Emission Zone LEZ £200 a Day!

Postby Chigwellolian » Mon Aug 13, 2007 6:44 pm

From the 4th February 2008 the London Emission Zone. LEZ. comes into force, it will primarily affect trucks 7.5 ton and above, with more stringent emission controls progressivly coming into force in time.

By 2010 all DIESEL vans over 1.205 tonnes will have to be Euro compliant if they are to be driven in the Greater London Area (inside the M25)

If your van was manufactured before 2002 there is a possibility it will not be compliant and you will be charged £200 a day untill it either is compliant, you move out of london, or you sell / scrap the vehicle.

Use the link below to read and enter your registration mark to see if your vehicle will comply

http://www.tfl.gov.uk/roadusers/lez/2526.aspx

My problem is this, I have a 2000 Mk6 Transit, but as it was built before 2001 it is coming up as NOT compliant in 2010, I have heard that all it needs to comply is a particulate filter on the exhaust.

Does anyone know what exactly is required to get the 2.4 Duratorque engine Euro compliant and who sells the parts?

The other answer is you could move away from the hell hole that is London  Maybe sell your house and buy a county further north. (All said tongue firmly in cheek)

Very good

As with every policy that generates cash and promotes the use of cleaner vehicles, once successfully implemented in London lots of other cities will adopt it.

This is currently the largest proposed zone in the world, see here

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/LEZ

It say's in the article, vehicles registered before October 2001 are likely not to comply, but you will need to check your vehicle status periodically after 2010 because the Euro emissions compliance will be updated and therefore changing on a regular basis.

So now when you think Congestion Charge, Road Pricing, think 'Emission zone'

I fear this is the death knell for Any old Diesel engine, including the Smiley face Di Transit....

I know that eminox exhaust systems are producing the particulate filters for trucks at a cost of a wopping £3000  price vairies through models, may be worth a ring to see if they do vans, i would double check on weather you van is compliant as we look after an 2000 Y reg &7.5 ton iveco cargo and that was comming up as non compliant but it has the euro 3 engine and was on the change over point so it is :!:

A little particulate filter will see to that piece of legislation

My van runs quite clean :o thanks to that EPIC :D

Anyone warming up for the blockade

The Di Taxis already have a nice little conversion waiting for them :o :D

A turbo will be added to the standard engine, along with the particulate filter :!:
The end result is more power :!: :o
And it only takes a day for the conversion :!:

All that info is on the site, only three suppliers at the moment, though sure to become more once all the 7.5 tonne owners suddenly realise that they have just 7 months to comply.

http://www.tfl.gov.uk/roadusers/lez/veh ... /2551.aspx

It has been found that an 02 plate is the rough guide for the cut off date for a compliant vehicle with no modifications. But TBH it is short sighted to buy a vehicle of that date only as there will be a sliding scale for when that age of vehicle is no longer complant, so 2004 onwards should keep you ok for a few years extra. Though what this is going to do to the used van market is anyones guess. Since it takes in nearly all of the entire inside of the M25.
As already said by some people however flipant the reply is meant, once one city does it another will quickly follow suit. Too many times something comes along that a local or national goverment wants to do and some people say 'It doesn't effect me so I don't care'. Never does this end well. This in time will effect everyone, companies will close London branches due to increased service costs and then whichever city they relocate to will eventually get the same treatment.
I am very surprised that the congestion only zone hasn't happened yet elsewhere, although it has been said to be in discussion...yeah right just like this emmisions zone was 'discussion' when it first got linked to.

I wouldn't worry too much in your position :)
As it seems as though they simply used a specific date to start recording emissions

You may well find that when you go for the test at the appointed VOSA garage, that you will pass with flying colours :D

Nope, M25 is exempt. On the same page as the map

All public roads, including certain motorways (except the M25) within the boundary are included within the LEZ. Following the approval of the Secretary of State for Transport, the following motorways are included: M1 south of London Gateway Services; M4 east of Junction 3 and the M4 spur to Heathrow.

Cheers Andyg, that is comforting for me, but i'm thinking of all the old Diesel enthusiasts, particularly that ol MK1 I had my head under the bonnet of at the Essex Transit meet that will be affected.

Is there an historical exemption, for vehicles that do a set number of miles?

All the answers to this are on the website, to begin with the thread about the Emissions Zone in Non-Transit Talk ( http://www.fordtransit.org/forum/viewtopic.php?t=10439 ) a lot was guessing since no info was forthcoming from either Transport For London or the DVLA regarding emissions figures. Now the website is fully up and running other than finding the cash for a new vehicle or the parts to get it compliant, everything you need to know is there.

Lots of cheap vans coming on the market in a couple of years time then :) London*? Why would I want to go there ;)

* although as someone has already mentioned, other cities are likely to follow suit so maybe not such a good idea...

Hi spooky

I wondered why there were a lot of 7.5 ton owners with Hiab cranes wishing to trade for a Transit.

Now I know.
