OBD reader!?

Postby Tragustauro » Sun Dec 17, 2023 10:38 pm

Hello.

I am looking for some kind of adapter to be able to "read" my car.

Would you say that this is the OBD "plug" reader connection? Picture attached.

Thank you in advance

My knowledge of OBD readers is that they plug into a SCART type plug usually under the dash inside the vehicle, not in the engine bay.

It's inside in the fuse box.

Hey.
I have been looking for the OBD reader "Plug".

Could´nt find it.

Maybe it does not have the availability for this!?

I add a picture of the fuse box inside the cabin.

Any feedback on this is appreciated.

Thnx.

If I remember correctly (not had a Mk5 for many years) it's under those spare fuses top left of box.

Yes, that spare cluster is a lid for the plug under it. You can just pull it out.

Ok.

Question.

My car is reg as of year 1995.

I have the obd2 reader plug with the pins. (in the fuse box)

Most obd2 readers, I have seen, states it only reads from the year 1996!?...
I usually can´t find my model ford within the menu's!?

Since I have the OBD2 reader plug, I assume I am not suppose to use a OBD1 reader!? RIght?

I might be a moron question. But the confusion is real.

Thanx

A 1995 transit is almost certainly not OBD compliant, even though the plug is generic and will fit. Ford had their own dealer tools when these vans came out, (FDS 2000) and the Lucas Laser 2000 will read them too.

Thanks for the reply.

I got hold of a Obd2 reader that goes back to 96.

I just had a swab out of the ECM.

Car is running like a new.

Dealing with rust issues now..OMG!

The Obd 2 reader gives me a generic code of P1000.

I have learned that is a typical Ford code when the reader can not perform a full diagnostic reading/Scan..

Now getting into solving this issue.

Thanks a lot.
