Fat tyres,tires,tiers

Hey Ned, AT Tyres or tires as we now call them

The daddy i guess are BF Goodrich or (michelin) right 235 65 17 which are 4x4. But will be ok on the new van (mk7)

What's your opinion on cheaper ones? Road kruzer etc. Bf are like 800 for 4 new, i can get cheap ones as low as £69 each but don't fancy using the chalk on the side walls to show rubber dub or whatever gash name there is I could still put bf goodrich on there but it won't be good and I'll only be lying to myself.
General grabber seems reasonable as I'm familiar with them but still...

Yes bfg’s are bloody expensive, mr Airthies has them, I’m currently running powertrac vantour m&s on fanny, low road noise and surprising quite grippy considering how cheap they were, I had gerneral grabbers once but they were super loud road noise, maxxis look quite good but expensive now.

What wheels are you fitting them on? Depending on the back space (et offset) depends on whether they’ll catch or not, when I had 235’s with a 4” backspace they caught the arches.

We have powertrac on the Alfa as well and wet grip is good.

It’s really a trade off of what your needed them for, proper A/T are great in muddy but noisy on tarmac, m&s are quieter but not great in mud.

Whichever ones you go for look miles better on the mk7 then the standard ditchfinders

I'm getting 17 inch wheels, I think et45.

Standard is 215 75 16, 225 65 17 compared virtually the same diameter but a midges wider and 235 a midges more but still ok i think. I'm fitting these wheels.
I noticed bf 02 somethings were off road only. I only drive on the road but I like the look of the extra grip on the side walls, i may occasionally go camping etc but mostly I want good road tyres really.

Ooooow there nice there’s a merc camper near me with similar wheels and bfg’s with the side wall tread, I’ll try and get a sneaky picture.

Et45 that’s pretty similar to the standard factory wheels isn’t it, as long as it clears the chassis rail you shouldn’t have a problem

The best thing I can say is when comparing tyres look at the db rating, the constant droning noise will drive you mad after awhile.

The better the brand the longer they should last unless you get magnetic tyres like Mr Punto had on his mk7

Cheers, i have the rwd t330 so it'll have more clearance than the fwd, snowflake used to enjoy 255 55 18 I think, t350. Used to be fine apart from inner scrub on full lock which i set the toe to parallel to fix that
I may end up with road tyres on but I'm going for the off road camper look on the van.

But certainly I'll look at db rating. I'd expect if the tread pattern looks more road then it should be road worthy, some patterns look like mushrooms or something

If I didn’t have wellers there the style of wheel I’d go for, you know the rugged look, have you fitted them yet if snowflake had wider tyres then 235’s shouldn’t be an issue, remember you need a limited slip diff on that rwd, donuts anyone
