Sliding Door Not Closing Properly

Postby Christoph Berlin » Sat Jul 13, 2024 10:50 pm

The sliding door of my Transit (Model 1999) is not closing properly anymore. The problem is getting worse over time.

I had bought the car with the dents and sratches. The door closed properly when I bought the car.

The back part of the door only closes when applying force. It even opened once on its own :/

Please share ideas how to fix it :)

Please see the video.

Sliding Door not Locking Properly

Postby Christoph Berlin » Sun Jul 14, 2024 7:19 am

Hi, I have bought a used 1999 Transit Camper 2 years ago. The closing of the sliding door was worsening since then. Now, it only closes with force after many attempts. A friend that drove the car told me that it event opened by itself when he was driving on a veeery bumpy road.

It seems like that there is some kind of resistance that does not allow the back part of the door to close and lock properly. I have made a video, because it is much easier to understand.

I have applied WD40 to all moving parts involved with no improvement.

Please let me know: What would you do in order to fix the problem? :)

Solved.

There is a rod inside the door connecting/moving the lock and closing mechanism. The length can be adjusted. It had too much tension.
