1.8 tdci 2013 catalytic converters

Hi all,

Im relatively new to the forum and need some advice. Sadly my trusty ford transit connect 1.8tdci 2013 started developing a lot of expensive problems recently.

The new one is blown flexi pipe which I hope is responsible for a whistle sound when I rev close to 3k/change gears.

However the van has done already 150000 and the garage recommended replacing the entire exhaust...and quoted for 1.6k sadly second opinion didn't help much.

I think I may need to bite the bullet but I hope to reduce quote by getting my own parts. Annoyingly the van has two catalytic converters. One is klarius (323762) - very expensive and another is BM (BM80621H), much cheaper.

Question 1. Do I need both?

Question 2. Can I use two BM converters instead of klarius, the latter costing 700£. I can see they are identical in size.

Any help appreciated as Im getting a van PTSD.

Your van should have a Catalytic converter, with the flexi pipe which connects to your echaust manifold. Then, further down a D.P.F. filter.which doesn't have a flexi pipe. After that, if you still have the original pipe, it is one piece that goes right through to the tail-pipe.

If your flexi-pipe has split you generally cut the pipe below the CAT. and put a new flexi-pipe in between the CAT. and the D.P.F.

Ford make them, Finis: 5150380

Or, as you mention, just buy the pattern CAT. complete with the flexi pipe. One end bolts to you manifold and the other to your D.P.F

if i had £494 it would not be spent on a ford one

sadly if you put mk2 into ebay , that's the only one it brings up

if you are handy you could make these fit ..brought up by putting this search into ebay ..not sure if all mk1 ..but you'll just have to look and compare:-

You can buy weld in flexi pipes I've done loads on various vehicles but also you can get clamp on if there's enough space for the extra clamp part of flexi
Whistling noise maybe turbo related, check air filter isn't chocked with the exhaust leak at
Flexi causing turbo to work harder
