Inside rocker cover so clean no carbon

Postby savi18 » Thu Sep 12, 2024 7:49 pm

Couple days ago thought I’ll checked the valve clearance and clean out the inlet manifold elbow, well to my surprise there was not one bit of carbon or sludge in the rocker cover or on rockers, it was like brand new and very very clean, even the inlet manifold elbow was hardly any carbon build up, expecting the EGR valve to have clogged the manifold up but no, not bad for a 27 year old engine, even the tappets needed very little adjustments, when I pulled the oil filler cap of with the engine running there was hardly any blow by and no smoke, the engine has done 200,000km(124,000) miles I’m I very lucky, must have really good oil put in and changed well before the recommended interval, can’t beat these banana engines,
1997 2.5DI, NON TURBO. Cheers

When I was 30 years younger, I was repairing Soviet cars Zhiguli, Moskvich and Tavria.
I often repaired engines.
There was a lot of carbon deposits in the carburetor engines of that time - due to the disgusting quality of the engine oil.
About 20 years ago, I discovered the German Titan oil.
It showed itself perfectly on the Zhiguli and no worse in the engine of the old Transit.
I change the oil once a year - in late autumn, before severe frosts. Mileage is about 15 thousand kilometers.
Clean oil is one of the conditions for a good winter start of a diesel engine. Clean oil allows the starter to more easily accelerate the crankshaft of the engine to starting speed.
But in New Zealand this is not relevant.
