I thought it was quite confusing to sort the heater problems in MK5 , so why not have a ONE STOP SHOP that organises everything for you to study? ;

Here are some common parts
RESISTORS (pre mid 1997 in engine bay by drivers main light, post mid 1997 under dash board item 11 on exploded view)

the sub loom can burn out quite common but relevantly easy to change

my problem seems to be a blocked MATRIX.

symptoms. No heat on demist or anything

top inlet hose HOT going into heater via bulk head
BOTTOM hose cold coming out.

Does anyone know how to disconnect these hoses??

found these matrix types not sure which is for a smiley 1997 pre updates ie resistor in engine bay

I've been deep in the study for quite some time now and this is getting me closer I feel!

Fingers crossed I can find the issue when I take the dash apart!

I got my one working better by running a house hold descale through it with a small electric pump
