Ah, that will be because of the decrease in sheep related accidents due to the new 20mph speed limit (they can run faster than that!) :P

What was wrong with the old set up where you could just spin off the old cartridge filter and replace it in minutes?! It took me an hour and a half to change mine, most of that time was undoing the filter housing - without the special tool. Some of the vertical pieces of plastic were missing presumed sheared off in the attempt to try and replace the filter. These things are stuck on solid so no wonder they are an absolute pig to get off oh an don't forget the mess even with a towel and a having drained most of the diesel. I managed to use a strap wrench and then a flat metal bar to tap the filter round to line up the marks where it would release.

This is a service item and should have been made much easier to swap out, the pre-2011 were easy, I think the Mk8 uses the same set up. Thankfully on ebay you can buy a new housing with filter for £30, I'll do that next time but what a faff. You live and learn.

The first time I did it was wasn’t to bad, but made a huge mess.
2nd stuck solid but managed and made a mess.
3rd time stuck solid broke the housing made a mess. Brought new housing and the tool to remove it with.
Done it the 7th time this year and it’s still no easier, and still make a huge mess
No matter what type of grease or oil I use on the rubber seal it still stiff.
Also always a struggle to get the thing back on and lined up.
I feel your pain

Replaced a single broken clip that holds the door card on. Stopped an annoying rattle that had been pissing me off for over a year.
A small win for me

I added some resistors to the indicator wiring on the rear lights so they don’t ‘hyperflash’ because I’ve changed all the bulbs to LED and the MK7 doesn’t like it!

Finally a day without rain.

I thought to quickly fix the little oil leak i have on the oil return pipe of the turbocharger. Then on of the two bolts just snapped, and left me 2mm available in a unrechable place to get it out. It took me 3 hours to get the damn thing out!
Then the gasket dissapaered into ,the engine compartiment... been searching for it like hell
When i finally had everything, i wanted to reconnect the oil pipe to the turbo, the bolt ruined the aluminium thread
that was the moment to stop and drink a beer :x

Damn, why didnt it rain?

Bro came round with his mk1 custom. Cv boot split and failed mot.
Long story short, replaced the whole driveshaft complete, did try splitting the shaft from the cv joint but no bueno. Only 2 bolts holding the intermediate bearing on then off it popped. O/s is about £52 quid off ebay

Pita trying to find inner CV joints but no-one supplies them separately.
They only supply full ranger front shafts complete, of which the shaft and outer CV are no use to me.

I may have to bite the bullet and buy a full shaft to see if the inner CVs fit the OEM spline.

My brother ended up buying a whole drivers drive shaft just for the cv boot

You could of got a universal stretchy one and just lube it up and slide it over the outer CV
