2019 T-350 Rear Heat Blowing Cold

Postby Daktal » Fri Dec 13, 2024 3:58 pm

2019 Transit Passenger Wagon T-350 148" Low Roof XL
VIN: 1FBZX2ZM0KKB41795

Van has been converted to a prisoner transport so there is a steel and plexiglass partition directly behind the front seats. No other modifications.

Rear heat blows cool air through the floor vents. Front heat work just fine. I drove it for about an hour with the rear heat on full blast and the temp got to "comfortable" when it should have been sweltering by that point. The garage that services it says there's nothing that can be done; since the front heat works, the heater is working just fine. Since the blower motor works for the rear, the system is working as it should. The fact that its not getting hot back there is because of the partition. Yet we have 5 other identical vans and they heat up just fine in the back.

Any ideas what the problem might be?

Answering this question , requires you to convey to us what system you have fitted

There are a number of set ups

van with no AC
van with AC
van with no AC and auxiliary diesel powered heater
van with AC and auxiliary diesel powered heater

other combinations relating to bus etc

see here first four pictorial links, then come back here and tell us what you have

I don't have enough information available or general automotive knowledge to make use of that website. I looked at the pictorials as you suggested and I'm not sure how to narrow it down to what I've got. Also, it seems to be for European Transits and mine is a North American built model. I'm sorry but I don't have a lot of experience and I'm casting blindly in the dark for information.

I can tell you however, it has air conditioning, no auxiliary diesel heater. Separate climate controls for front and rear with rear climate controls mounted on the ceiling in the front. There is a separate AC condensor and blower motor in the back and AC comes through ceiling vents in the passenger compartment. Rear heat comes through floor vents but the blower motor is behind the dash on the right side.

Think you may have coolant hoses running under the floor and a heater matrex / core at the end of them...there are joints on the coolant hoses, take them off and flush in both directions ..means you'll loose most or all of your antifreeze in the system ..so buy some ready. note though - cant see this happening as its usually plus 10 years when the system gets full of rust and silt etc

This is a thread from recent ...that shows the rear heater hoses on a mk8, which is as far as i can tell bar the engine, is closest to yours.

viewtopic.php?f=64&t=214676

it's also possible if designed like the one above to have an air lock in the rear heater core ... and it may also be impossible to get it out without a vacuum coolant bleeder device ...its also possible that there is a bleeder valve at the highest point near the rear heater core.

and being as its late as 2019, it may have its own motor controlled actuator door near the rear heater core that is not performing its task

Does the rear have its own heat control?
