Desperate for a solution

Postby Simontfs » Fri Mar 14, 2025 10:05 pm

Good evening all, I wish you all a good start to the weekend.

I have a 2010 transit FWD LHD 2.2 tdci 115t280 230000 km. In have spent a small fortune trying to fix this problem, and I'm now desperate to find a solution. The van has new MAF, EGR, MAP, Diesel filter, injectors, alternator, anti carbon additives, air filter, battery, the list is endless. And it will continually cut out on idle. It drives great, but as soon as I stop moving, the revs go somewhat erratic or it seems to chug a bit an conk out. Or it simply stops. It will start up again right away on turning the key, idle for some seconds and then stop again...or not...depends on the moment. I have noticed that the transparent plastic housing above the white diesel filter is only half full, not sure if that's an issue or not. Please to all you lovely people out there can you give me any constructive ideas to fix this as this is driving me nuts. I love this van, and it's the only issue it has, and I need to get it solved, I really hope you can guide me on this. Here is a link to what might be the part problem.

I thank you all in advance for all the tips and help you can give me to resolve this.

Were the learns done after fitting the new injectors..?? If not, you're wasting your time. Cutting out at idle or when coming to a stop sign or junction is usually the SCV causing it. The "transparent plastic housing" above the filter is just a filter clogging indicator, nothing else...they usually have an air bubble in them, this is not a cause for concern.

MAF and MAP sensors rarely fail...Usually a clean of each will suffice.

A run on the learns may help, if not replacing the SCV & PRV then a run on the learns will more then likely sort your problem.

To ad some context, the motor was knocking quite a lot and the injector seals were leaking, and it also was cutting out before the injectors were changed/cleaned, which is why i had them looked at. The knocking and leaking injector seals are no longer an issue. This work was done at a garage and the injectors and the codes are the same, i know this because I marked the injectors up with heatproof marker in various locations and also checked the injector codes before and after the service.

If i do the learns and for some reason it doesn't complete the test, what are the consequences of this. Will the van drive, will it go into a default drive mode or such? it will it render the van undrivable until the learns pass?

All Euro-4 injectors have "unique" individual 16 digit correction factor codes written on the plastic electrical connector, they usually start with "F"....highly unlikely they are all the same. The part numbers will be the same but not the correction factors. These correction numbers need to be entered into Forscan properly and the learns completed successfully or the engine will never run properly. If the garage has failed to do this correctly, find a garage that knows what they're doing.

If the learns fail to complete successfully, it's usually because the injectors are faulty or not coded correctly... or the SCV/PRV are faulty. If there are any engine related fault codes present, this can cause the learns to fail or not start at all.The engine will still run but will run poorly, performance and economy will suffer greatly.
