Convert electric oil switch to sender unit

Postby Jaimzg » Mon Apr 21, 2025 2:43 pm

A few days ago I checked my oil on my Mk7 2.2 tdci and it was empty, not a drop in it. It gave me no red light warning so I decided this was too unreliable and needed an old fashioned oil pressure guage. I'm having problems finding a sender unit with a 14 mm connector to the block were the electric switch goes. Anyone know where I can get one.

That's. ...maybe because you may be wrong about the thread size ..it may be (1/4) x 18 NPT - USA - national-pipe-thread.

Not saying it is it ..it could be it , others here will confirm .. you need to do some more research 1/4 is 13.7mm O.D outside diameter so near ..but does it have 18 tpi - threads per inch ?

dont go buying this ..im looking fior alternatives ..but still may be wrong . new post

"T" version of above ... i cant see other end in picture

Some things like pipe threads never turned to metric ... think the latest ecoblues have metric but that's it i think.

and if transit made in uk ..who knows -(1/4) x 19 tpi - 13.2mm BSP British standard pipe thread or taperd bspt - british standard tapered

thread gauge - you need one of these to check

This one ..where you Still cant see the other end, and see that it will take the electric switch plus the pipe for gauge
again cant be sure ..
needs to be confirmed by others here- that's if i right about these threads not being metric

if only i could see the other end

Thanks for the replies. I did get an adapter from a pipe place that took the 10 mm one I had and went into the block with the 14 mm end. The adapter was 10 mm inside thread and 14 outside. Problem was it was too short and was up against the water pipe fitting. I'll wait for more info.

I just fitted a "T" piece to mine so I still have the oil light and the oil pressure gauge. But mine is a 2.4 RWD so a bit different and probably a little more room to play with.

The threads in the oil cooler housing and on the switch aren't metric either...they're either 1/8" NPT or 1/4" NPT...they a "tapered" threads.

Oil pressure fittings are normally either 1/8 or 1/4NPT

I would be amazed if it was any different
