What size deep socket to remove injectors?

Postby Rooz121359 » Mon May 05, 2025 4:20 pm

Hello,

I'm trying to replace 2 of my injectors.

I've removed the return pipes, removed the electrical connections, removed the seal that goes on the top of the injectors as well.

And now I can see the hex on the injectors which was hidden under the seal.

What size deep socket do I need to remove the injectors?

It's a 2006 mk6 2.2 diesel engine.

Thanks in advance.

I'm afraid there's no such animal as a Mk6 2.2L engine. Mk6 FWD is 2.0L.

2006 was the changeover year between Mk6 & Mk7, are you sure it's not a Mk7..??

If Mk7, you don't need a socket to remove the injectors, they just pull out after removing the clamp.

Hahahah... its defo mk6. The gear stick is long and it comes up from the floor. Is that an indication that its mk6?

The engine is 2.2 by the way.

I've pulled everything apart lastnight and its 100% hex at the top of the injector which requires a 21mm deep socket to pull out.

If it's definitely a 2.2 engine, (retrofitted/grafted into a Mk6), then the injectors just pull out, after releasing the injector clamps across the top. The Hexagon on the top is for dismantling the injector.
They can get a bit stuck with carbon if the copper sealing washers have been leaking :(

It was a 21mm deep socket to unscrew the injector to take it out.

The delphi part number is
EJDR00401Z

These ones dont have a clamp and they're not coming out by pulling them. They need a 21mm deep socket to undo them.

Sorry, the Mk6 was never released with a 2.2 engine, if as our Altransit suggests, it has a Mk7 engine in it, the injectors just pull out after the clamps are removed.

Can you take a photo of the engine for us..?? Do your injectors have any wiring to them..??

Does your engine look like this one..??

Or does it look like this one..??

So it's not a 2.2 engine then :?: Must be the earlier 2.0 as suggested.

We can't give you the right help if you give us wrong information, the information I wrote was correct for the 2.2 engine.

You need a “special” deep socket with a cut out in it for realigning the fuels pipes ect on refitting, halfrauds sell them.

Normally a mk6 tdci is a 2.0 fwd or 2.4 rwd unless someone has replaced the engine with a 2.2 from the mondeo st diesel, also if replacing the injectors there is 2 different nozzle lengths so make sure you get the correct ones

"Delphi"..?? That means it's a Mk6 2.0 TDCi common rail engine....not a 2.2. The Mk7 2.2 Euro-4 has a Denso system.

What gave you the idea it was 2.2..??
