Mk6 crank pulley rubber

Belt seems to be wondering off the crank pulley and in turn pulling to the outer side of the tensioner which is causing the belt to also wonder off the alternator... shredding belts.

Old alternator had a fair bit of play on the pulley so swapped that out, no play there now.

It's been suggested the crank pulley might be to blame due to the rubber failing. Iv pulled another pulley off a spare engine and I'm unsure if iv got good rubber on this one. Would anyone happen to have a picture of a good looking crank pulley please.

I dont, but your looking for signs of deterioration cracks/ splits..

I always thought the MK6 didn’t have the rubber harmonic balancer

It doesn't have a harmonic balancer just a thin rubber strip on the inside. Trying to figure out what could go wrong with the crank pulley

Iv now worked out it serves no relevance to the crank alignment.
Crank pulley has no play but the bast*rd belt keeps riding forwards on it

Alternators have like sliding hollow bushes that adjust themselves during fitment.
if just bolted on without noticing this , tightening it where it settled, instead of thinking about it, a mis-aligned pulley with the rest of them will result.

Iv put a new alternator on , it has up and down play on the top single mount but the lower two are fixed so not sure how it can be positioned as this did cross my mind.

Has the timing chain cover been off recently..?? All other pulleys and idlers ok..?? Power steering pump, vacuum pump and water pump turning smoothly..??

Timing chain cover hasent been off.
All pulleys are turning well. I had minimal play on idler and tensioner so changed them.
Alternator had the worst play, now its all solid.
May have to get some expert eyes on it as I'm stumped.
