Cam chain change

My 2014 custom has done 155 thousand miles, so I'm thinking about fitting a new chain and tensioner. Can anyone recommend a decent make to get, or am I better playing it safe and paying more for genuine Ford kit.

Look for German chains -- hard to see in the ebay pictures, they usually have IWIS stamped on the links, FEBI Bilstein use IWIS chains
Makers - Look for Renold, SKF , IWIS, DID, are a just a few i know as being quality.
SKF are Swedish, DID are Japanese, Renold are British , IWIS are German.

Be very careful, as some English sounding names or makes have Chinese parts in them - avoid!

Do your research

Think some Ford OE chains are IWIS

I always use ULTRAPARTS Kits, they use genuine Ford/PSA parts in these kits unless they can supply a specific part that is better than genuine ,
I've personally used ultraparts for over 25yrs (head sets, engine rebuild kits , timing chain kits etc ) and never had a problem.
On ebay "aapoldham" does good prices for Ultraparts

I got my kit from Tpuk. I they said it was oem. The tensioner was but the rest I'm not sure. The cam and exhaust cog tbjbfs didn't have the same nice tooth shape that the originals had, I wish I had just left the originals.
That aside, it's been fine since.

I think I'm just going to be changing the chain and tensioner if I can get away with it.

btw .you'll need the tin cover, if you do this job, as it will be bent distorted and destroyed taking it off

Very rare to get the timing cover off without bending it on any of the Transits. Snapping bolts/studs is a common issue too.

Same principle the chain is wet in oil.

Guides will be worn too...silly not to at least do them too whilst you're in there.

Like knobby said - I was going to be my normal stingy self, but eventually got the whole kit. The guides were worn a lot. Deep grooves in them.
