Piece of piss. Worst part is remembering which plugs go where.

ha, im an old hand at this stuff. every bolt went back in the hole it came from, pics taken throughout. yet ive still got odd bits.

welded up the lock holes in the SLD and rear door, as its getting central locking. welded up a couple of holes in the floor too.

still got two more holes in the floor to do, plus strips along the floor where the chassis rails are, both rear corners and spring hanger outriggers and the corners of the floor above them, couple of holes in the rear x member, passenger side rear arch, drivers side lower rear corner, both front arches, little bits on the front wings, both cills and repairs to the inner cills.... and a fair bit of surface rust and rust around the window rubbers.....

Sounds like a lot of work you've got for yourself. At least it'll keep you busy.

god its slow when youm barely have a couple of hours per night to work on it! :(

all ive got done tonight is the gearbox adapter flange and flywheel transferred to the new engine, and the new clutch fitted. hopefully the box will go on tomorrow, and it will go back in the hole. then ive got about 4 hours work fitting all the gubbins back on, judging by how long it took to strip. guess i should allow a couple of hours for setting up, oil changes and general aggravation. with my other commitments in the way, im hoping to fire her up sometime on sunday.

well the engine and box are back in tonight, shouldnt be long now. while i was under it i discovered ive blown a rear slave cylinder on the brakes, and ive had a poke around at the rear spring hanger and its bloody awful. rear crossmember needs attention too :(

Hmmmm..... starting to wonder about this engine, its allegedly a 76000 miler, but externally its in worse shape than my 126000 miler its replacing.

perhaps its just never been cleaned and been sitting for a while, but i didnt like the look of the inside of the waterpump, so i decided to replace it, taking off the timing belt cover i found the belt was pretty badly perished and stretched, to the point where the cam timing was slightly off

also took the dizzy cap off and found the rotor arm broken :?

hope im not doing all this work to find that its a dud

all the work replacing the pump and the belt ( and the t'stat while i was at it) has delayed me a bit, but i only need another couple of hours till i can turn it over on the starter and start setting it up - oil change, plugs etc, plus the timing will need doing - i might have the rocker cover off and do the valve clearances while im at it.

does anyone know what the static timing should be set at for a 1994 2.0 EFi :?: :?:

well it looks like i got done  engine runs, okay-ish, but it taps just as bad as the old motor did before it blew up.

90 day warranty, but i can see the scenario already......." that engine you sold me is duff"............ "ok send it back and we'll exchange it" .....knowing full well im unlikely to spend all that time and money ripping it out again

think im going to use it till it goes bang and in the meantime try to find another van :(

Is it tappet noise? I know you have adjusted them, so its probably the front camshaft bearing....same thing mine is suffering from at the mo.
Why not rebuild your other head?

i may do. i may get the whole thing rebuilt, but its a question of time and money as always. not that money is an issue - i could go out now and buy another van for up to about 2k, thats where i started when the first engine went pop - but everything i looked at at that money was only a years use behind this one, in terms of rust that needs fixing, and who knows what mechanically?

so i decided to change the engine and work on the rust ive got, didnt see the sense in paying out 2K just to have the same problems a year or two down the line, when i could spend less on this one bringing it up to a better standard.

but with some uncertianty over how long this new engine will last, i might just keep my eyes out for a new van....

this tapping is driving me mad, ive found out why it was running rough, had one dodgy plug, its running fine now......but theres still that tap tap tap........its exactly what was there before.....im starting to wonder if its something else, and not just the coincidence that this engine has the same fault as the last one.

cam is in good nick, followers arent too bad, clearances are pretty good too.

ive even run if for a bit with the cam cover off - no obvious float on the cam or sticking followers, plenty of oil out of the spray bar too

its not an exhaust gasket, ive changed them all, including the one on the downpipe. it sounds mechanical, but now im doubting that it is. could it be a crack in the manifold?

knackered injector?

any other ideas?

or is it just as loose little end, knackered big end or main?
