Need new Tyres - What's Best Bang For Buck in 2025?

Postby snowjoe » Mon Jul 07, 2025 8:29 pm

Just wondering what the latest recommendations are for quality budget tyres. I am sure someone told me a brand a year or so ago but I can't find it after reading all my past threads.

I need 2 or more likely 4 new tyres - 235/65/16. It's a SWB MK7 - Grateful for any brands to check prices. Thanks

PS - Front 2 are on legal limit. Rear 2 have maybe 2-3 mm but getting close. Someone said it's best to replace all four rather than just front two for now. Not sure I agree, grateful for views on this too.

It is best to replace all four....but it's your choice...If you do just replace two...make sure they're exactly the same size as the other two...or your ABS/TC will have a hissyfit.

I bought 215 × 65 × 16c last week called three AAA , company on ebay messed up price and were selling 4 for £118 including postage (correct price £218)..... and yes i managed to buy another set before price got corrected
Another (in my own opinion) great in the wet budget tyre is POWERTRAC
Incidentally i Fitted three A's to wife's Mokka and what a difference in road noise it was virtually gone, was like a different car (215 55 18 conti's) and excellent in the wetImageImage

Thanks. Interested in the reasons why all 4 is best. I am gonna take that advice and stretch to 4, hopefully get a bit of a discount on 4 rather than 2 bringing individual price per tyre down. But would like to know why it's better to do 4 instead of 2. thanks again

DAMMIT! Nice find! I just found -https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/205394833910
Yep, price corrected. Will check all their listings just in case they made same mistake anywhere else!

Powertrac - that rings a bell, maybe that's the one everyone was raving about a year or two ago last time I discussed this.

Only point is the sizes I need are not standard. Got some nice alloys on the trannie, drive LOVELY compared to originals but a fair bit more rubber to pay for. (235/65/16)

Anyone heard of Centara?

These seem pretty cheap -https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/356673140482

Then again, if these ThreeA tyres are decent, even better price -https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/195643181027

Not sure what you mean Mark.
It's a transit. The tyres need to be 'van' tyres, and everyone (incliuding insurers) say the vehicle is 'commercial'.
I obviously needed van tyres with sufficient load rating. not sure how to answer your question though! The vehicle is used privately, with rarely much weight in

They look pretty beefy, quite like the look of those. I do wish you could get tyres with about 2 inches of tread depth. I wonder why nobody makes them like that? Or is that a silly question? :D :D :D

YOU could use the phrase : ford Transit All-Terrain tyres ./..or off-road tyres to find some with larger tread ..2 inches is asking a lot though and they will probably be noisy. and not as wear resistant as you'd expect.
