2008 TDCi engine (dead) - coming out
2003 TDDi engine (alive) - going in
As far as I can see, the rocker cover and upper part / cam carrier part of the head are different, so I will be seeing if the cam carrier can be transferred from the newer engine.
I will be stripping the older one of all it's sensors, and wiring, fuel pump, injectors, and retaining all the original parts from the newer vehicle.
Fingers crossed everything will be transferrable, and my customer will be able to drive away!
If not I'll chalk it up to experience, and buy a 2nd hand engine that matches his engine code, and sell my older TDDi
I'll try to update you all in a few days.
Cam carriers are a matched pair and line bored to the cyl head, not transferable. TDDi and TDCi engines use different cam timing gear & chain, the TDDi uses a double row chain, the TDCi is single row.... rocker ladder system is different and the TDDi engine injectors are mechanical and screw in, the TDCi injectors are electronic and clamped in.....heads are totally different. TDCi Injection pump lives on the cyl head and is driven by the inlet camshaft, TDDi pump is driven by the timing chain and bolted to the block under the inlet manifold. TDCi has a cam sensor on the inlet cam...TDDi does not. You'd be better off just swapping the whole engine, PCM, looms etc over....not easy but has been done before.
TDDi rocker ladder uses "rocker shafts":
