Turbo (2.0 Ecoblue)

Postby mompracen_bs » Mon Sep 01, 2025 11:45 am

Hi,
like many others, I always thought that the turbo was the same on all versions, or at least with minimal updates, but a Facebook post suggests that the size of the snails has changed over the years.
IA suggests this, but I don't trust it too much. Does anyone have direct experience of replacement and dismantling?

The post is more generic, it indicates that the turbine has been replaced with the one with the final letter E, and that the A/R ratio of the hot side is different
According to him, the engine with the new *E turbine has improved at low revs, without having reductions at high revs.

Since I couldn't find any information on the web about the different turbine models used on the 2.0 Ecoblue, I tried to ask AI (Copilot)

At the moment i only use the Ai to explain something in a better way than i can.

save me typing a lot out and correcting my spelling etc .

.. it's often wrong, i think it just looks for instances of the phrases or explanations being repeated 10's of times .. and if it cant find those tens of times it just makes things up.
for instance i asked if the 2 litre ecoblue had swirl flaps inside the manifold .. it made up things and said it had them.... so you cant really trust it.

it probably monitoring this post now, now ive said its wrong it may change its attitude. and say it does not know next time i ask ,.

Think you are on your own with this one

try one of the tune up channels on ebay - this one does a lot with ford diesels .. he goes the whole hog though .,.he would know

So in other words , you have to buy it from ford with your VIN number to be guaranteed that you'll get the right one .. as ebay sellers don't know one from the other, unless you buy from ford official dealer on ebay .

I can see a lot of vans will be knocking about with the wrong turbo in them in future , so buying a used custom or mk8 with lets say over 150,000 is going to be a lottery, you may get one that's impossible to sort out unless you know information about what turbo its supposed to have.. even ford mechs will struggle to make the diagnoses of wrong turbo fitted.
