Any Tips?

Postby longhair » Mon Sep 08, 2025 6:06 pm

I'm struggling to get the vaporiser off my custom. I have discovered it is blocked so I am trying to remove it, but it is refusing to undo. I have a decent 22mm open ended on it with a 18 inch bar slipped on it and all that is happening is the spanner is slipping round. I'm reluctant to use some heat on it being where it is close to the turbo and other stuff. The only way I can see of removing it is to cut off and use a socket on it, but I really wanted to try and save it and try to unblock it and use it again. Any suggestions or tips most welcome. Edit. Just found a tool made for the job, made by LASER tools so I might have to give that a go.

Along side that tool, i noticed they sell a thread chaser tool .. so presume you are going to have damaged threads after you get it out.

I have various thread files already, so I'll hopefully be able to clean them up. Ordered the tool, should be here tomorrow.

If you look at O’Reilly autos on YouTube he has to heat up most of them as for the use of thread files ok for the external threads on the vaporiser but you will need a internal thread chaser for the Dpf he has to use one on a lot of them

Absolute f*** nightmare of a job. Even with the LASER tool, you still can't get any decent access to the vaporiser nut. Had enough of it today, going to have another go tomorrow, but looks like I'm going to have to cut the tube off and get a decent impact socket on it.

I have seen most of his videos, the problem I have is the position of the nut that it has been tightened to, because the tool is only 6 sided, I am restricted in the position of the strongarm i can use in such a tight space, with very minimal movement.

What you don't see with mr O'REILLY'S vids is the amount of time it can take to remove these even with getting it red hot and if you can't get proper heat on it you'll struggle like fook, like you mentioned chop it and use impact socket and buy /use propane blow torch to get it glowing red

Just got the bloody thing off. No wonder it was tight all the way. All you have is about an inch of movement to turn it. I had to keep getting it red hot, get a bit of a turn then get it red hot repeatedly. Absolutely sh*t design on Ford's part.

Looks like I'll be getting a vaporiser. I won't be getting a genuine one at them prices.

Non-genuine ones are poor at best or just don't work well...we've found that out long ago.

On second thoughts, I'm going to get a die and try to clean the threads up.
