Long time since I had a Lucas pump on a transit but my mk3 had a wax stat in the water system that ran a cable to the pump operating linkage when the engine was cold it operated this linkage to increase the idle speed and advance the pump timing for cold start as the engine warmed up it released the cable to return the pump to normal running have a look and see if yours has this system.
Mine was a non turbo

Hi yes it has the cable from thermostat to lucas pump but from cold I assume lever on pump should be pulling back to operate mine is in the engine warm possession so no good. I have to rev a little for a few minutes then idles OK ish even when warm its idle is a bit lumpy. I put some forte in but that didn't improve it much age of van etc. Cheers

You could fit a cable like a choke cable off petrol engine

Thanks for advice. I changed the thermostat and fitted a manual choke but its still
Lumpy when warm there is a slight leak from advance housing gasket would that cause it .also I'm going to fit a new fuel filter but not sure how to remove it.its a purflux cs433 with a black screw thing on the bottom cheers if you and advice.

Unscrew the plastic nut on the filter head pull off the filter fill new filter with clean diesel and push it into the filter head as tight as you can and tighten up the clip then start the engine on half throttle and run for a minute and then let it tickover
The black screw on the bottom is a water drain

Hi fitted new fuel filter and did the leak off mod but havnt changed the 3 short pipes yet engine still lumpy but definite engine tone change when sprayed brake cleaner on top of injectors. I'm hoping when I change the 3 short leak off pipes that should seal . The only way to stop engine rocking is raise idle. If the pipes are not sealing would that cause the lumpy idle? Cheers

That would suggest one or more injectors are not seated correctly

I've tried tightening hold down bolts but they are tight. It seems more from the black plastic leak off cap that alters tone more when I spray them. They have a wire clip holding the cap on do you just pull clip up and pull cap off and is there a seal in them. Cheers
