Sounds like rocker valve clearance to me, hydraulic lifter trouble .. but you've already sorted that .

with new parts .. good .. if used parts ... well then anything can go wrong

the only other recurring fault with these is; injector washers can sometimes make a tapping nose from not sealing.. this will also be indicated with chuffing pressure out of the oil filler cap when removed.

all the best.mark ..

The lifters are tiny and you cant really see them in place .. so ive heard . unfortunately despite looking many times for illustrations of them in place .. i draw a blank .. also no videos showing them being replaced .. despite rockers arms and lifters being sold as separate items.

they must be there .. as if not, you'd be shimming the valves to take the clearance up like in the old 1.8 connects.

ford don't sell them on there own, only as complete assembly ... that you've just replaced, (well i think you've replaced them .. did you replace the part with all the rockers hanging off it ? ) this engine in other vans cars made by Peugeot Citroen .. in which the seperate lifters (ford call them tappets) are available hence all the references to them on ebay being transit and Peugeot etc

I seem to recall that Loot had this problem with his 2014 2.2 Custom, and that turned out to be a faulty injector :?

Maybe worth looking at

Ummm....yes they do. You have 16 of them.

They live in the rocker ladder and also act as the pivot points for the rockers.

Might pay to pop the roker cover off and check for damaged loose rockers etc.

You said "head cams and cam carrier ladder" changed

that means not the rocker carrier ladder (item marked No2 and frame in first diagram )- if so then that's the answer -- change it -note: its a unit that comes with the rockers and lifters

struggling to understand what you've changed

if its the small ends it will be due to oil squirters getting blocked and long oil change intervals.

impossible to steer you to a youtube video with noises on, as everyone has their own idea what a knock is

but at 88,000 miles ... non of your problems should be happening.
