2020 Transit 2.0 EGR fault

Postby Stuartbrown06 » Sat Dec 20, 2025 6:24 pm

Hi, I had an engine management light come on about a month ago, used forscan and got a diagnostic code for the egr valve being stuck closed. The valve motor sounded awful and creaked and groaned when it used to cycle when you put the key in or opened the door. Bought a replacement elstock unit from GSF autoparts and fitted it. All seemed ok until yesterday when the van started kangarooing when i was pulling anyway from junctions and losing power on hills.

Today ive checked all the connector plugs and hoses etc and all seems ok, when i scan it on forscan im getting an egr stuck open code now? I can do live data scanning but not sure what i should be looking for... sounds like a faulty egr that ive fitted but hoping to confirm this before ive got to remove it again and get it swapped.

Thanks for any help

Should be closed on brisk or hard acceleration, open at various percentages at cruise and mild acceleration , closed at tick over.

recommend new and good are pierberg or ford ... anything else may be Chinese

Hi mark, thanks for this.. it looked OEM, I got £72 surcharge for handing my old one back so maybe they are refurbed? Definitely wasn’t Chinese copy quality. I’ll take it back off tomorrow and see if it’s anything obvious. I think only euro car parts open tomorrow so might end up having to buy another new one then return the old one Monday.

https://www.gsfcarparts.com/products/eg ... elk73-0373

That’s the one I bought and it mentions pierburg in the fitment info.

I didn’t relearn the adaptations when I fitted the new valve, do you think it could be something to do with this? I k ow I’m clutching at straws as the fault is too severe to be this and not sure that ping a ‘stuck open’ code straight up

Shame you can’t test it in FORScan by closing it and opening it and feeling/listening for it moving

i don't remember and cant recall anyone talking about the egr learns on an ecoblue .. but would not rule it out .. have a look through forscan to see if it has an egr learn. it may not be down as that word learn , it may say something like EGR initialisation or recalibration or adaptation reset or reset values

It definitely did have a learn/calibration in the menu but I didn’t do it, I’ll post later on when I’ve took it out and see what I find, thanks for coming back to me again

Changed the EGR again and seems ok now. Looks like it was a faulty EGR although it was ok for a couple of weeks. Hopefully no more problems with this one.

Thanks again for the help
