Struggling to remove EGR valve Transit Connect 2015

Postby deepfried_funk » Fri Dec 26, 2025 2:00 am

I've got a Transit Connect 2015 1.6 TDCI. I've removed both bolts holding on the EGR valve - and from what I've seen online and on the van, there are definitely only two bolts.

I think it's really badly coked on. I've tried soaking it in WD40 for two days with no luck - it literally won't budge. There's no real places I can get any purchase to lever it off either.

Any ideas on this one? Unless I'm being dumb and I've missed a bolt. I was considering trying to get a chisel in between the faces but I'm worried about damaging the parts.

Also - can't seem to find reliable and reputable gaskets for it online - can someone point me in the right direction? Ford wanna charge £40 for the EGR valve gasket which is stupid money for a small metal gasket.

Looks like there are at least 4 bolts to get it off from goog images.

looks like there are two bolts .. but you may have to remove other bolts and parts ... as it looks like it has to be swiveled to release itself ... as it is a close fitting cylindrical arrangement and a sealing o-ring may be tight.

second pic shows his two bolts .. first picture shows what you've got to swivel

parts diagram pics don't show anything to help .. very confusing parts diagram... so no good me leading you to that.

as regards gaskets

forget ford ... they want £45 just for the oring

as far as heat resistance of o-rings

this is what google says

For the absolute highest heat, FFKM (Perfluoroelastomer) O-rings are the top choice, handling up to 330°C (600°F+) with exceptional chemical resistance; however, materials like FKM (Viton), AFLAS (TFE/P), and Silicone (VMQ) offer great performance in extreme heat (around 200°C to 260°C) and are often chosen based on specific chemical compatibility needs alongside temperature.

so ebay o-ring sets made from the above materials

paper gaskets

well you are just going to have to learn how to make them yourself

for the material: google -

paper+gasket+that+stand+the+highest+heat

then once found, enter gasket material into ebay

you also need a hollow punch set

I had a similar issue with my Transit Connect's EGR valve, and I ended up using a combination of heat and penetrating oil to loosen it. Try using a hair dryer or heat gun to warm up the area, then spray some penetrating oil like PlusGas or Kroil. Let it sit for a bit, then try wiggling it back and forth while pulling it off. As for the gasket, I got mine from a Ford specialist parts supplier online, they had it for around $10-15.
