Mk 7 2.2 cuts out when cold

Postby firstaiddressing » Tue Mar 06, 2012 11:23 pm

Hi Chaps Ive just bought a very tidy 2008 SWB low roof panel van 90000 miles, goes like sh*t of a shovel but in a morning when cold it keeps cutting out and the rev counter is up and down, it runs smooth for say 3-5 seconds then rev counter drops then it picks up then drops and cuts out, it gets better as it warms up but even then i feel its dropping slightly on tick over...never had a diesel that does this its more like a petrol engine would run when cold, any ideas please.

Bill.

thanks lads for you advise on this.

Van Had code check this morning nothing showing
Ive had the van serviced today new fuel filter and oil change etc but still surging, the mechanic seems to think pilot pump as theres air looming about in the transparent fuel line
the pump seems to be pulsing but no fuel coming out.. does this make sense ?? any ideas please.where is the pump anyway???

also do you kow the cost of one of these units are they ford only and is it compulsory for the PCM update check

Cheers.

good morning all i have the same issius as stated above what was the fix please and a rough cost of all this ive changed diesel filter housing ect and only in cold weather does it do this im also having similar issues with the rpm going up and down almost like spraying brake cleaner into it and it revs up then dies down and Chugg's to eventually turn off then when trying to start it wont turn over just cranks until you go under bonnet and press the primer bulb and then the van will start and be fine for a few days before it does it all over again
ford transit mk7 2008 2.2 duratorq

Thread is 14 years old...the person you're replying to hasn't been here for 10 years. You'd be better off starting a new thread with your issue.

What you're pressing on the filter housing is "not" a primer bulb...it's a filter clogging indicator.

When were the learns last done..??

Also, is there a way to properly test the pilot pump before replacing it, just to be sure that’s the actual issue? I’d rather not throw parts at it if it could be something like an air leak or blockage in the line.

And if anyone has had the same issue before, did replacing the pump solve the surging completely, or should I be looking at anything else alongside it?

You're best off starting a new thread with your problem....new posts tend to get lost in very old threads.

What's a "pilot pump"..??
