Repair recommendations for BCModule

Postby pcatterall » Wed Feb 18, 2026 1:00 pm

There is an intermittent fault with my Mk7 Body Control Module ( its either in the module or the plug/socket which leads to the Instrument display cluster).
My local garage agreed to send it off to their 'electronics experts' if I removed it. I find that 8 days on the 'experts' have still not collected it !!
I am thinking about retrieving the part and posting it off to one of the several firms who offer a repair service.
Are there any recommendations, please, for firms you have used?

Unless its going to be replaced, id suggest getting a good soldering iron, flux pen, solder sucker and solder.
Solder all the pins.
Clean the plugs as good as you can.
Ideally spray soldering work with conformal coating.
Reset bcm and save a lot of money.

What is the fault you're having?

Past experience BCM modules either work or they don't.
For the price of a second hand unit I wouldn't bother getting it fixed I'd just replace and reprogram.
If you've got coms then save the as-built file and transfer or download as-built from the motor craft site and load the factory file.

Mk6 dash was coming for dry solder joints on the main IPC plug contacts but not something that has affected the Mk7.

Touch wood all is sorted. I was concerned that the fault was not INSIDE the BCM but poor contacts on the BCM or the loom to the Instrument cluster.
I had planned to get a used BCM from eBay ( essential to get a matching code!) and send that, with my original, to one of the 'experts' who do a quick cloning job.
I thought I would do a final cleaning job on the contacts. Using the wiring diagram I identified the most likely connectors ( there was no obvious corrosion even using a magnifying glass!) anyway I cleaned them all using proper switch cleaner and fine emery paper. Put it all back and now everything works!

Glad to hear you've got a good result.

BCM are swappable as long as the last 2 letters of the replacement BCM are the same or higher spec.
First of the two big letters is the spec level the second letter is the revision version.
