MK2 custom 'overheating'

Postby Chubs » Wed Apr 08, 2026 8:40 pm

Good day all,

Bit of context, I am in the maintenance team of a long term van hire company that has 7500-8000 vehicles, 1800 of which are operated out of the branch I work at.

I have an issue with a couple of customs we have on fleet that I am at somewhat of a loss with.

Both vehicles say they are overheating when they aren't, these are un-rentable in this state due to safety and liability concerns.

I just want to know if any one had these issues and how to fix it. I have escalated to some higher ups at Ford in Essex.

Attached for reference :)

Think there are two coolant temperature sensors, one in the head and one on the thermostat housing.
only plugging in diagnostic scanner will sort out which one it is

it could be that the one operating the gauge is wrong and the other one is right

there has been talk here .. of some issues with the radiator fan

so dont go by the gauge telling you its not overheated, cause it still could be .the cooling system is complex

Water pump

Run-on Pump Recall: 2017-2019 Transit/Custom models were recalled due to the run-on pump overheating, often requiring a fuse change (15-amp to 7.5-amp).
This is an electrical pump designed to carry on pumping hot coolant to the cabin heater, when in stop start mode --- if the year of yours is not in the recall .. i don't know

How this effects things .. i honestly don't know, i'm not up the scratch on how the electric cooling pump effects things - new tech that is unknown to me .

Hi mate, these are 25 plate neigh on brand spankers. All values correct, do you know of any cluster faults potentially?
