Transit 2.4 into a mk8 2.2

Postby Stefancapri » Fri May 09, 2025 9:09 am

Hello all, I'm not sure of this is my first post or not, i just found I already had login details for here!

I have a problem, I've had the dreaded 2.2 hole in piston, it then had new pistons fitted and lasted about 1000 miles before piston slap started to happen and scored the bores!

2.2 engines 2nd hand are so expensive and the recon ones I hear are terrible?

I've bought what I thought was a 2.2 euro 4, but after investigating i found that they don't do a euro 4 2.2 in rwd. So what I actually have is a 2.4 euro 4.

It was listed as a 2.2 euro 4 but because I got it delivered via shiply I can exactly return it, I can give the seller a bit of greef about it i guess though.

So a possible stupid question, can I just use the 2.4 and fit all the auxiliarys over from the 2.2 injectors and turbo are new and use the 2.2 fuel pump. Obviously I don't want to melt a piston on the 2.4 so had anyone done this? The dpf and egr have been removed when it had a remap after the pistons were replaced so non of that are going to be an issue.

I realise what I should do is just sell this 2.4 on and buy a 2.2 bare new block from tpuk.

Advice please and thanks!

If it is a 2.2 euro4, then it's a FWD engine maybe :?:

It's definitely a rwd engine.

So....you want to put an old Euro-4 2.4 engine into a Mk8 Euro-5..?? It will physically fit...but that's where is ends.

Not easy, but can be done.....you'll need all engine looms, dash looms, PCM, BCM etc...Euro-4 doesn't have DPF etc...so all the original DPF exhaust, wiring and pump will need to go.

Vehicle will still be classed as a Euro-5 due to the VIN.... so will never be able to pass Euro-5 emissions test and will more than likely fail MOT.

Late to the party but for anyone else considering this, I'm currently working on this conversion.
It's not straightforward.
Manifolds are different along with turbo and EGR cooler.
Vacuum pump location is different Euro5 back of cylinder head. Euro4 on top of water pump.
Rocker cover is different
Fuel pumps have different bolt patterns.

I'll try to do a post about it if it works....
