brake light problem

Hi all
I have a 2014 mk7 FWD van with a brake light problem with the engine running the brake lights are on all the time they go out when i turn the engine off. I have changed both brake pedal switches with on change cleaned the earthing points in the rear lights. The van has a tow bar which i have never used in eight years of owning the van. Am i missing anything simple before a take it into the garage. TIA

most brake pedal switches are adjustable, can't remember off hand if transit is, you can eliminate it being a switch problem by unplugging the switch , if light goes out its either switch problem or switch adjustment, if still on when switch unplugged check its the correct bulds as you get off set locating pins and straight pins and if you fit wrong ones the brake light contact pad can touch side light terminal

Still the same brake lights on even when i disconnect the wires from both switches

Got a bad or wrong bulb in one of brake lights ?

Try unplugging one lamp unit at a time see if the opposite brake light goes off..

had mentioned wrong bulb possibility but he's not said if tried it or not mate
