Any experience of buying intercoolers - best buy- VFM

Postby metalworker0 » Sat Apr 11, 2026 3:27 pm

Think my 2006 transit connect tddi needs an intercooler, its starting to rot.

There are two types, mine is the laid down at angle type .. part number 4548369 (there are others that are vertical not mine)

if you put that part number 4548369 into ebay , you will see all that is available
local ford dealer - i have priced a genuine ford one .. at £596.68 inc vat... i don't think that's a good buy.

so ebays cheapest new is £48.92 rising to £245 and i don't / cant see any differences

GSF car parts supplier want just short of £200

just looking for wisdom and opinions --- including experience .. with mk6' 7' 8 and custom

btw all the used ones look really grotty and tired... plus its a risk, I may be buying a blown turbo one with debris in it ... not interested

For my old doblo got one off eBay it was ok used to get aircon rads from Lincolnshire radiators maybe worth looking at a radiator supplier near you but eBay will be cheaper

Thanks for the advice Dumper .. it looks like im going to be just looking at ebay for months .. until maybe i see a recently bought genuine ford one .. that is used but very shiny with no corroded fins at a bargain price .. well sort of bargain price compared to fords £596.68 inc vat.

some new ones look a bit dodgy with one pipe .. slightly back on the other. shorter

I had to search for two years until i found a genuine bulkhead that wasn't beat up and near enough to drive to to pick up - last year before the fuel price rises . .. i paid high ..£180 191 miles round trip and 17 litres of diesel, but got a really nice mint bulkhead.

back to subject . as regards new

This is the most promising so far .. looks close in design to the genuine ford one anyone heard of SRLINE?

Went with the one in the link above , identical to the ford one, quality is as good as, .. ordered last Tuesday only arrived on wednesday 8 days later, fitted well.
cant say why all others on Ebay have one tube longer that the other , this one didnt so was the one i bought.
Again note: some mk1s have a vertical one. part number 4999282
some have an angled one, mine is angled - part number 4548369

if the ebay link disappears: for the angled one

SRLINE CHARGE AIR COOLER part number 3256J81 - £51.66
